Cisco Routers :: L2TP On SRP541W Default Routing Table Is Wrong
Sep 21, 2011
I have a problem connecting SRP541W to my ISP (L2TP). Connection is established, but default routing table is wrong: instead of gateway I see Server IP: [code]
In similar situations other users of my ISP with Cisco routers (IOS) solved this problem by adding command no peer neighbor-route but i can't do it through the WEBgui...

I have a RV042 router. The problem that I am having with it is that the DHCP is giving out the wrong Default Gateway and DNS Server. There is no option to change the DHCP server IP on any of the settings pages on the router. I am begining to think that there might not be a way to do it. I see that there is an option for the DNS under the DHCP page but the Public IP that is being handed out is not the one on that page. I also have 2 WAN connections hooked up as well a DSL link and a Cable link (the cable link is the primary one).
The following information is provided in an effort to resolve this issue:
IP of Router 10.0.0.2
IP of DHCP Server (the one that is being handed out):10.0.0.1
IP of DNS (the one that is being handed out): 10.0.0.11
What I want to it be.
IP of Router: 10.0.0.2
IP of DHCP 10.0.0.2
IP of DNS 10.0.0.2

I need to remove (or change) the default entry in the routing table for Windows XP, which routes packets with a destination equal to the adapter's address to localhost. The reason for this is I want the PC to be able to send packets to a device (with IP address A) connected to one adapter on the PC with IP address B, even though a second adapter on the PC has IP address A.

I have a question about filtering incoming bgp route updates from an internet provider. This provider sends the full internet routing table and default route and on an incoming prefix-filter on the customer switch (C6509-sup720) the default route is only accepted.What happens on the 6509 switch when the BGP peer flaps?Does it need to process all the internet routing updates, and if yes probably it cannot handle all these updates?What happens with the CEF table, will the switch install the routes first?

How can I change default gateway and DNS's for L2TP type of connection? I've tried to specify them in static IP address first and then switched to L2TP as adviced in one forum, but it didn't work. I don't understand why such settings as Gateway and DNS servers cann't be specified as for PPTP connection. Firmware is 2.0.37.

I tried the "Advanced Routing" Feature over the RV-042 V3 Dual WAN VPN Router , And the New IP Subnet i added ( 10.0.7.0 ) in the Static Routing Table does NOT Appear in the Routing Table of the Router. Please review the attached Print Screen for both the Static Routing Entry Configuration & the Routing Table of the RV-042 Router.

I am currently using 2 routers. One is a 2wire router with stock firmware it is connecting to the internet and can't be altered all too much, it also has a PC connected to it. The other is a WRT54GL with Tomato on it with pretty much EVERY other PC and device connected to it, it is also connected to the 2wire and DMZ'd through it.What I want to do is somehow allow everything on the Tomato router to have access to the 2wire router's PC. (For media access or printers or whatever on Windows 7)

I've configured a VPN IPSEC on my ASA5510. It Assigned IP/NETMASK/Gateway via a DHCP Server on the LAN.The problem is that when a client is connected to the VPN , it takes the right IP and NETMASK. ( 192.168.1.109 / 255.255.255.0) but the Default Gateway is wrong ( 192.168.1.1). It should be the default Gateway of my LAN router ( 192.168.1.229).

This is terminating on an ASA c5510 sec+ running 8.3(2) Client devices running XP with the same VPN client get an address from the ASA pool e.g. 10.10.50.1 with no default gateway. Users are able to connect without a problem. Windows 7 (32bit) clients with this same VPN client get this address but get a default gateway 10.10.50.2 and are unable to connect for obvious reasons.

So network was running fine for about a year or so. Network consists of 1 Motorola SB6120 cable modem attached to a D-Link DIR-601 wireless router. All settings were default except for SSID and WPA password. One day I just couldn't access internet anymore. I've narrowed it down to the default gateway that is being given out through DHCP. The default gateway that is being given out is the IP of the modem (192.168.100.1) and not of the Router (192.168.0.1). I can't find any option on Wireless router to be able to force the gateway address when handing out the gateway IP. Theoretically I thought I should be able to put router on same subnet as modem as 192.168.100.2 but that still doesn't work. If I set the IP adresses statically on the PCs and give it the Gateway of the Router everything works fine. I should mention this is for my boss' house and basically I dont want him calling me everytime he has a friend come over and I have to talk em through setting up a Static IP.
And just for an example this is what I get if I use DHCP:
IP Address: 192.168.0.155
Mask: 255.255.255.0
DNS: 192.168.0.1
Default Gateway: 192.168.100.1
And If I want it to work I have to change the default gateway to 192.168.0.1 I've tried updating routers firmware and reset to factory default numerous times. Is it possible for a router DHCP stop working?

I'd like to add a WRT54g2 to my LAN. I'd like it to communicate with my existing LAN router, and not to talk directly to the LAN. Therefore, in Basic Setup, I don't have the top part (Internet Setup) configured. Is that a mistake?But, it seems that when I enable DHCP, it hands out its own IP as gateway, and then doesn't seem to send the traffic on upstream. When I configure clients manually with the real router IP, they work fine.
So, I'd like, I guess, Linksys to forward traffic on a static route to real router. How do I do this? Adding a route to real router yields the error, "maybe default route already exists."

I've been playing around with the Cisco RV180s for a while now and have come across a problem with the subnet calculation in the static routes and routing table. Essentially, if I configure up a static route for a /16 it's entered in the routing table as a /13. If I add a /24 it's entered in the routing table as a /16. I haven't tested every subnet size and combinations but this looks like a fairly fundamental maths bug.
As a side note, I notice that the 1.0.1.9 release notes state the removal of SSH Server, however, I can not find any reference to it's existance prior to 1.0.1.9, did/does it exist in 1.0.0.30 and if so where? .
Screenshots are below and an extract from the configuration file for reference.
From the config file:
route = {}
route[1] = {}
route[1]["active"] = "1"
route[1]["dstIpAddr"] = "8.8.0.0"
route[1]["gwIpAddr"] = "192.168.1.250(code)

Recently we have purchased a few SRP541W for our small branch office VPN sites. While working with the config I have discoved that when trying to create a IPSec VPN policy, I am limited to only one "remote network" entry. This is typically not how VPN tunnels are bulit. We generally put the following remote networks in the tunnel. How do I open a BUG ticket with Cisco and ask that they change the code?

I have an SRP541W with two ADSL modems attached to it. Both are running bridged mode with PPPoE connections to two different ISPs, (TPG and Telstra Business Direct). The TPG connection is far cheaper, and has a much higher download limit. Sadly, if I leave the router in "load Balance" mode for the WAN, it "prefers" the Tesltra connection because it's faster. I want downloads for movies/music, Youtube, Internet Radio, etc, to go through the TPG connection. Is it possible to do this in the router, or would I need to set up a proxy server, (or some other external device/application)?

We purchased a Cisco 541w router for one of our customers.
The main reason was to provide them with 3g backup solution for their business.
In order for the router to recognise the 3G router the firmware was upgraded SRP540_1.02.01_023_081211_1136.
We arrived on site last night to do the install but couldn't make any changes to the already configured router. Every time we attempted add a vlan or adjust the dhcp scope the router would return "The values are invalid".
Worked at this for over 1 hour and then decided to factory reset the router to see if that would revert the router to use the original firmware.
This didn't revert to the previous firmware but we magically could now make network changes without problem.
So everything was good, we reconfigured the router, tested 3G and failed the wan1 interface back and forth and the customer was very happy.
Customer arrived onsite this morning and the router was running on 3G. Every 8 - 10 minutes it was attempting a failover between connections.
I decided to turn off the failover for the time being and investigate further but yet again i was back to "the values are invalid"
We've had to pull the router as the customer is about 2hours away and revert back to their BT router.
Found this document for another SRP model - A warning message may appear in the Basic Wireless Settings screen with the text “The values are invalid” when modifying the wireless profile. Set the SRP 521W to its default setting (CSCtd49614).

Will firmware SRP540_1.2.4_003_011112_1847 released only 2 days ago cure the problem?

I would like to be able to remotely access these routers and make configuration changes from my main office but I cannot seem to figure out how to get it to work. If I try to access the internal router IP from across the VPN, I cannot. My VPN tunnel is up and operational and I can ping various devices across the tunnel but I cannot access the web management of the router.

I've configured an srp541w router for a customer and successfully configured an IPSEC VPN connection with a Netopia router at a satellite office for the customer.
I cannot seem to find a way to configure either a PPTP VPN connection or QuickVPN connection for remote users. I did read something that stated that the router will only support either a site-to-site VPN or a QuickVPN connection, but not both at the same time.

I am using an SRP541W router and i am trying to configure 2 vlans, each one to use its own Wan:Here are the dhcprules and vlans:As can be seen, each one has its own wan interface.
Vlans:As can be seen, each vlan is using its own ports and dhcp rule, so, now they should be separate.
Both Wans are connected: So now (at least as i see things) the two vlans are separate and using different Wan. But the reality is different, everything is going out using Wan1.Also in the Interface Info you can see that the 2 vlans are listed under the Wan1.
The rest of router setting are default.

We have an SRP541W on which I thought I had disabled DHCP, its turns out that in fact I haven't. After seaching again for the DHCP on/off funtion I found it under the Vlan settings (Wierd place to put it I thought).
The Router has a static ip address on the LAN side of 192.168.1.254 and is connected to a Cisco 2700 series on the WAN side. Our network DHCP is served by an SBS 2011 server hence my reason to switch off DHCP on the router. However when I select Static IP address from the Address Type in the VLAN settings and try and save the changes I get an error that is IP Address / Subnet Mask value is illegal. Great but why when the router has and IP address assigned and the subnet mask is set do I get this error. On the VLAN settings page there is no option to set an IP Address

Unfortunately, it does not appear as if the SRP500 series will allow you to create an ipsec policy where the local or remote traffic selection is 0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0. It wants a specific network. I have a scenario where I want to send all traffic over the vpn tunnel.
Is there a workaround to this or a special way to input "ANY" as the remote network?

I have the device configured in Router mode with 2 VLANs. I am able to communicate between the VLANs however my intention is to get VLAN 2 to talk to the internet and that is not working. A caveat is that I am not using the WAN port on this router at all.
The way I intend for this to work is that I have configured a default route on this device to point to a next hop IP in VLAN 1. Even though VLAN 1 is configured on this device the default gateway for this VLAN resides on another device upstream towards the internet connection. That upstream device is providing the DHCP etc for VLAN1. All devices in VLAN1 are able to get to the internet. Even the ones that reside behind this WRVS4400Nv2.
VLAN 2 is only configured on this device and the Default GW resides on this device. This WRVS is configured to be the DHCP server for this VLAN. Even though hosts in VLAN2 can communicate with devices in VLAN1 and vice-versa none of the hosts in VLAN2 are able to reach the internet. A simple ping gives the message "network unreachable from <IP of WRVS-VLAN2>. So it seems like the WRVS is not using the static default route.
I have upgraded the firmware to the latest version V2.0.2.1. Below is a simple diagram of the setup
VLAN-1 |
------- WRVS4400( IF: LAN1 )--------( IF: LAN1 )Generic Router( IF: WAN )---------INTERNET
VLAN-2 |
actually function as a router or is it that router mode is only to disable NAT and it really does not look up its routing table to route pkts out another LAN interface.

We just purchased the WRVS4400N router with high hopes. For some reason, our ISP provides a connection through L2TP Dynamic for a static IP. I repeat, L2TP Dynamic. Is there anyway to properly configure the router to use such a connection method. I only see L2TP Static, which seems to be the standard method for many routers.
