I would like to configure a switch to act like a Hub. I know about the mirroring port configuration, but unfortunately is not enough for me. Is it possible to do that with the switch that I have (i.e. SG 200-08) ? If not do you know a switch on which I can configure it like a hub (that mean no flow control between physical ports).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to configure my SRW248G4 switch thru console port. Unfortunately in this switch there is no RJ45 console port input, I can only see cosole port that is look like RS232 input. I bought two standard cisco console cables that have one end with db9 and one with RJ45.
Now I have and idea to put one end of one cable (db9) to switch, and one end (db9) of second cable in my computer (COM input/output)
I need to connect two RJ45 together - this is not a problem, I know how to do this. I have a LinkSys WRT54G2 connected to port 1. I would like ports 2-8 to be in one VLAN with access to the Internet and to be able to share their printers, hard drives, etc. with other computers on ports 2-8. I would like each of ports 9-16 to be on a separate VLAN with access only to the Internet and no other ports on the switch. I would like to be able to manage the switch from any of the ports 2-8.
After I create the VLAN 1009 (see screenshot below), port 9 can browse the Internet and cannot see the other ports on the switch which is correct. However, ports 2-8 can no longer access the switch at 192.168.1.20 in order to manage the switch.

I only have access to 1 pc and 1 router/switch.I know how to make the pc a tftp server with a tftp server program, which i can then upload my router config to.I now do not have access to that tftp program anymore and am trying to find another way to save the router config(not to nvram on the actual router but to my local pc).I have heard of peopel doing it with putty saving the log onto a file but how would you load that log??

I just can't get it to work.On the interface I have added: switchport mode trunk The default is encap for this switch is dot1q, so there is no need, or ability to add/change the encap mode. Also all vlans are being allowed by default. I still can't get any port to trunk. Need to get G0/1 to trunk, have also tried to trunk f0/6 to the switch in my office. Also can't find the command to change the management VLAN. I do not use vlan 1 for management. Can I change the Mang VLAN on this switch?

View 1 Replies View RelatedRight now I have it connected like this: Internet-> SURFboard SB6120 Modem -> DGL-4100 Router (modem in the WAN port, 3 internet connections plus the switch in the LAN ports) -> DGS-1008G Switch (2 other internet connections connected to this, as well as an Xbox 360).The problem is that everything connecting to the router works, and nothing works on the switch even though the power light is on (however, the port on the router that is receiving the switch is not lit up). I'm guessing this is because the router only assigns as many IP addresses as it has ports or something.

Looking at pcaps, I don't even see a tftp request going the server after the switch obtains an IP via DHCP. The config file format is exactly as obtained from the download backup section (pretty sure its not the issue since i don't see a download attempt). Also, the SMB switch is running the latest firmware image (1.1.1.8)
Looking though the admin guide i did not see specifics on how the DHCP server was to be configure for the auto configuration feature to work.
I have a question in regards to configuration I'm planning to implement. I currently have 2 x 3750 running in a stack. I would like to add 1 x 870 router connected to both switches.It's important for me that 870 is always available (it will only be used as a backdoor for our management network through WAN) but I don't want it to participate in any switching (including switching for management network unless it's going through this backdoor WAN). Do I need to configure spanning tree on all switches or stack is automaticly working as a 1 logical unit?As router is only using 100MB/s connection, how I can prevent this router from switching packets with other switches?
