Right now I have it connected like this: Internet-> SURFboard SB6120 Modem -> DGL-4100 Router (modem in the WAN port, 3 internet connections plus the switch in the LAN ports) -> DGS-1008G Switch (2 other internet connections connected to this, as well as an Xbox 360).The problem is that everything connecting to the router works, and nothing works on the switch even though the power light is on (however, the port on the router that is receiving the switch is not lit up). I'm guessing this is because the router only assigns as many IP addresses as it has ports or something.
I have a Cisco 2940 switch and a Cisco 1841 router. I want to build two different VLAN networks on the switch, which do not have to communicate one with each other, but those VLANS should communicate with the router.
I read a lot of articles, i tried to configure properly the switch and the router but i still don't get them work.
I set on the switch, the GigabitEthernet 0/1 port to Trunk port and i had to set it a native VLAN. The problem is that only from that native VLAN, i can ping the router.
I have here a canyon wireless router. do you know where I can find online a tutorial or manual on how to configure a wireless router so that it acts as a repeater?
A switch and a router are both pretty straight forward in regards to how they work. Tho I have a problem with the router. I have 5 computers in my home and we have 5 different ips for the computers to use, these are handled by a switch. <Note: these are 5 *unique* ips that does NOT share bandwidth>
Recently I got a router and when I plugged it in it only gave us 1 ip to share amongst all 5 computers. This is a pretty big problem as we all of the sudden *share* the bandwidth. <Edit: the problem is that the router only gives us 1 of the 5 ips for the whole network to share>.What I wonder is what is it called when you get a router to accept multiple external ips and spread them out across the network, like a switch does? I assume this is a "special" feature on routers?
I want to be able to easily switch off the internet, but stay connected to my local network. I'm trying to set up an arrangement that allows computer 1 to disconnect from the Internet, but stay connected to the local network, so computer 2 can still access the printer that is slaved to computer 1, and let computer 2 connect to the internet anytime. If absolutely necessary, I have a second Router that might be employed, for switching purposes. The trick is to be able to do this switching simply. Can I issue a command from computer 1 that will let me disconnect from the internet, but stay on the local network?
I purchases a Hauppage USB TV tuner and bought the software that allows live TV signals to be streamed to my home PC or android phone. Once I installed the software and ran a test, the remote access failed. The error message said I need to check the router's configuration. I know very little about configuring routers, but the model is WRT54Gv3.
My main PC and modem is in a back room of the house, my secondary PC and game systems are in the living room.My main PC HAS to have a wired internet connection because that is what I want.My game systems and second PC need a wired connection.I would like to have my D-Link wireless router in the living room so I can use the WiFi for my iPods, iPad, laptop, and anything else that I am looking at when I am sitting on the front porch. I have an Epson printer that I can hook up to my network that I want to be in the back room with my main PC.To get the internet into the living room I am going to run a CAT5E ethernet cable under my house (off the ground and away from electric wires and copper pipe) from my back room to the living room.Is it possible for me to go from the modem to a switch box (I actually have two switch boxes, but I believe I will only need one)which would be connected to my main PC, the printer, and the ethernet wire going under the house to the living room... Then in the living room have the wire that comes from under the house (from the back room) go directly into the wireless router and then from the router have cables going to my game systems and the second PC?If this will work, will I still be able to control the wireless router with my main PC?
Is there a way to configure one of the GigE ports on the E4200 to only work on the "guest" network? Basically I have a need to setup one of those ports to get to the Internet, but I don't want it to be able to get to anything else on the private side.
I only have access to 1 pc and 1 router/switch.I know how to make the pc a tftp server with a tftp server program, which i can then upload my router config to.I now do not have access to that tftp program anymore and am trying to find another way to save the router config(not to nvram on the actual router but to my local pc).I have heard of peopel doing it with putty saving the log onto a file but how would you load that log??
I got 2 routers for 2 houses which are basically neighbor close, Router 1 is the main Router which I pay for the internet, I transfer the internet from Router 1 to Router 2 with WDS Bridging which my Router is able to do so without any great effort (for me at least, I don't know about the router ). But sometimes I get the error: "Default (adapter name) does not have valid IP configuration)"How can I configure Router 2 to work with Router 1 better (i.e renew IP etc....).
I've had a Linksys WRT54GS running DD-WRT (build 14929) for a while. I recently bought another Linksys (Cisco) router (WRT160NL) and installed DD-WRT on it (build 16785).
I'd like to keep the WRT54GS as my main router since it is very stable and use the WRT160NL as a network switch, NAS device, and asterisk server. I already have samba installed, configured, and running fine on the 160. However, the 160 is running as a router so only devices connected to it can access network shares.
How can I configure the 160 so that all devices in my network can access its network shares?
I have a problem, i would like todo MACSEC betwwen two switches cisco catalyst 3560-x but I know that for this operation i needed ACS server 5.1 is it possible to encryp dataflow without ACS server and if you have the configuration
i have an issue to connect a trunk between cisco switch and extreme switch i have many vlans that i want to cross via a link between cisco 3750 switch and a Extreme Alpine 3800 switch
I want to use my old BEFSR81 as a switch only and for whatever reason it doesn't seem to allow me to do that.I've disabled DCHP but I don't see a way to disable the router. Is there some trick into using this router as a switch?
1. How I can manage those devices, the Switch and the router? What is the BEST SOLUTION to manage this devices?
2. I want to monitor the traffic on this environment, how I can do it? How I can monitor the traffic from customer A, Customer B, and my own LAN traffic, in terms of bandwidth that has passed throught my devices? Is it possible to monitor on MY LAN, or I have to monitor from the EXTERNAL switch?
3. How I can limit the bandwidth? I was trying to configure it using access list, with policy-map, etc....and limit this on each interface. [code]
The interface does not support the specified policy configuration and/or parameter values.Assigning a policy map to the output side of an interface not supported. With I few reading, I could see that the SWITCH 3750 doesnt support this configs. My INTERNET LINK is 30 Mbps, the ports on the Switch (WS-C3750X-48P-L) are Gigabit Ethernet. How I can limit the bandwidth here? For example, How I can limit a interface to 3Mbps..I was thinking about this:
- Limit the interface to 10Mbps: speed 10
- and limit the interface with 30% of this speed: srr-queue bandwidth limit 30
Does this work for both UPLOAD and DOWNLOAD?When the packets passes that 3Mbps limitation, will they be droped?
when I try to configure my autonomous 1140, it does not work unless I use numbers. If I put in my phone number as my key, I can authenticate just fine. When I change it to some random letters and numbers.
is it possible to use cisco AnyConnect client to connect users with Cisco VPN 3000 appliance? If so how to configure VPN 3000 concentrator to work with AnyConnect?
I have just changed my ISP and received a Thomson TG712 Modem, router and VoIP Gateway. Nice device, but I would like to extend my wi-fi network and connect a couple of PCs to another router in a different area using an almost new Linksys E4200 as a second router.I have already wired a network cable from the TG712 to the location where the E4200 is, tested the connection using a laptop, but cannot configure the E4200 to work receiving Internet service from the TG712.
I'm trying to configure my WAG200G to work in bridge mode so that it can transfer my external IP address to my ISA server. My network map is very simple,Internet -- WAG200G -- ISA Server -- LANCan
How to configure a 4500X with a GLC-T SFP so that it will work at 100M.The data sheets say it will work at 10/100/1000 but Im not seeing that happen can't set the speed and it doesn't negotiate with anything at 100M it will only work with auto to another switch set to auto and supports 1000M.
make a couple of SF300 switches to work properly with a C2960S-48TS-L that acts as core switch/basic router. I can't seem to figure out how to assign VLANs correctly in trunk and access mode on the SF300. The 2960S are a no brainer with IOS commands but the webgui in the SF300 is a pain.
I've configured the 2960S with 3 VLANs and I would like to have the SF300 switches connect to the C2960S-48TS-L through VLAN trunk and then configure the ports on the SF300 switches to belong to the assigned VLANs of my choosing. I would also like to have all the SF300 switches management interface in VLAN 50.
Would one of the 'Cisco RV016' work with a switch? I'm planning on running our work network using this device to load balance between 3 WAN connections and would like to keep the upstairs and downstairs computer users separated via a switch. Will the switch affect the load balancing or will the router still be able to detect each individual user and balance the load as seen necessary?
I connect a WRV210 router with Small Business 100 Series Unmanaged Switch SG 100-16 Switch. But the switch is not work with the router. In the port of switch (connect with router), no light. In router, the port is disable.Do I need cross-over ethernet cable connect with them?I tried connect WRV210 directly to computer, that is work. I tried connect WRV210 to other (no name) switch and connect this switch with Cisco Switch 100-16 switch than they are work. why?
If I connect my WAP121 directly to my router, it works just fine. But when I connect it to my SG100D-08P switch I can see it but when I connect, I get "limited connectivity" and it cannot "identify". The switch is PoE and everything looks to be working fine, but I have tried it both PoE and regular thru the switch; nothing works. Can't understand why if I connect it cat-cable going into the switch it works fine, but when I coonect it thru the switch, I have problems. I thought this switch was unmanaged, but something is going on.
How is it possible to configure 2 VLANs to communicate with each other on the same switch? I have managed to create 2 VLANS and they both work (and can access the internet), but they can't communicate with each other.VLAN1 has an IP range starting 10.4.160 and VLAN2 has an IP range starting 10.6.192.Is it VLAN routing that I'm looking for? My switch is Netgear GSM7328FS.
