I have a cisco 1811 router with 12.4(6) IOS, I would like to ask can I use this as a layer 2 switch?
When I issue vlan ID command it gives me " Invalid input detected", I need use this device as switch to create different vlan on and the connect the f0 port to a ASA
I've just got my hands on a Cisco PIX 515. I mainly brought it too learn and play with, i done some Cisco stuff in the past but not much.
I just need too get this up and running with a IP Address on ethernet1 (192.168.1.254) but when I run the command "name if ethernet1 inside security100" in enable mode all I keep getting is ERROR % Invalid input detected at '' maker
Whenever I use the following command I get an invalid input error

I have reset the firewall (cisco 5505) to factory default. The marker ^ is under the subnet
I got a new 1811 series router. Its sh version output is " flash:c181x-advipservicesk9-mz.124-11.XW6.bin". I need to upgrade to the latest IOS. How can i find a latest one? How can i upgrade to the latest one?

trying to upgrade an 1811 to the latest firmware. [code] just seems to always boot back to the original file and not the one i just tftp'd up. could it be that this router requires additional ram to support this ios?

I seem to be having an issue where certain very packets are being dropped/lost by my office router. The reproducible situation is, when I attempt a DNS zone transfer from my linux bind DNS server (A.A.A.A) to any server on my network behind NAT (Y.Y.Y.Y) the first packet (Seq 1) of the response is lost. The client making the query asks for first packet (Seq 1) to be resent, and the DNS server attempts to resend it repeatedly, but those are lost too.

In university I have one ethernet socket in my room which I have connected to an ethernet port on my wireless router. I have also connected all my other ethernet devices to the router so I don't have to keep unplugging them and replacing the ethernet cable in the wall socket. I can connect to the internet through the router but it's only allowing one device to be connected at once and the router is saying "no connection" even though I can connect through it. does this mean it's working as a switch at the moment, right? Would it be possible to make it work as a router so all my devices can work simultaneously and get the wifi to work?

Now when i try to ad another static IP , or when i want to change something in the Routing-tab, i get this message ' Wrong Gateway Input! It should be the same subnet with WAN IP'. Strange because i haven't changed anything in the settings.I already did a complete reset on the router, still the same problem.

After changing the password and clicking on Save a small screen pops up asking me to verify my router's username and password. When I enter the exact same user name and password it does not accept them. When I try to enter the old user name and password it does not accept them either. I then try combinations of the two and it still will not accept the input. I have reset my router 4 times now and this keeps occurring. I am completely baffled.

I recently bought the E2500 Router and I am using the EA2500 Adapter with it . I have this set-up on 2 Desktop PC's . 1 Pc is working just fine with this set-up . The other keeps giving me an Error message of "Invalid Key Manual" . What does this mean ? The adapter is working because it does find the Router as a usable connection . It just isn't able to connect to it and keeps giving me the same Error message .

Both MTU's are set to 1500 both on inside and outside. (provider mtu setting request is 1514, and both ASA's will be changed out soon.) Unfortunately, some exchange/kerberos auth issues are causing me a problem in the remote site. I perform the tests that microsoft recommends using a length of 1472 on packet ping size, and do not fragment flag (1406 is the largest packet I can push across the vpn) . I know part of this is due to the extra overhead that ipsec places on the connection.
I want to refrain from putting the black hole registry workaround on all of the PC's in this remote location.I've also seen some discussion about manually setting the TCPMSS value down to 1300 on most ASA's.
i have a problem suddenly cant connect through router anymore.. it said "DHCP server PPPoE not found" but the day before yesterday i can connect.. but if i connect without router (modem to PC/lappie) My router : Buffalo Airstation WHR-HP-G300N, i have tried several action like reset router into factory setting but couldnt solve my problem. i realize recently that DHCP thing cant find any IP address anymore.. is that my router problem/my ISP? when i try wired connection, i realize too..
