Cisco WAN :: HWIC-3G-HSPA - How To Keep 3G Connection Up As Backup
Apr 6, 2011
I have many HWIC-3G-HSPA cards as backup connections and I need to keep them up for monitoring purposes. Being a backup connection they get little interesting traffic for them to spring into life but they are the source interface for a tunnel interface (we use DMVPN). The interface still insists on going down. I have even added static routes to the DMVPN hubs over the cellular interface and they still go down. What command do I enter to always keep them up? I had originally used 'dialer idle-timeout 0' and then removed it altogether which the same results. Below is what I have now.
interface Cellular0/1/0 ip address negotiated ip nat outside ip virtual-reassembly in encapsulation ppp dialer in-band dialer string gsmscript dialer-group 1 async mode interactive ppp chap hostname //username// ppp chap password //password//
ppp ipcp dns request
access-list 1 permit anydialer-list 1 protocol ip list 1
line 0/1/0 exec-timeout 0 0 script dialer gsmscript modem InOut no exec transport input all transport output all rxspeed 7200000 txspeed 5760000
I'm trying to backup my primary WAN with secondary backup connection - 3G WAN through Cellular 0/0/0.Point is that I need to track some external IP address on my primary interface, for examle 8.8.8.8. If it is not reacheable, then router brings up backup connection - 3G. This can be done by using dialer-watcher.Simple.But unfortunately my primary WAN interface is an FastEthernet, which is the coonected to a switch, switch to WAN . There is no dialer-watch commands on it. Thats sad .
One more time :
WAN -> SWITCH -> ROUTER(WITH 3G HWIC and Fa 0/0 connected to switch).
Within the space of a few days we've had 2 HWIC-3G-HSPA-G cards appear to fail on different router models. In each case the sh cell x/x/x hardware output is empty i.e no firmware version or other data provided and the radio status is off. Attempts to force the interface down using the test ....modem-power-cycle or radio-power off get the same error message that the modem is still in reset. Reloading the router does not clear this so we recently tried to update the firmware using the latest version off CCO. The upgrade using the microcode commands failed with an error of "unable to determine the modem state".
We have Cisco 2811 router with Hwic-3g-HSPA card. When I configure the system everything was fine. Around two weeks 3g interface works, got IP address ,everyting was fine.Yesterday I check the sytem and I saw that cellular interface become reseting itself, without stoping. We have 2 g.shdls and one 3G connection on the same router. dialer 0 ansd dialer 1 for g.shdls, and dilaer 3 for 3G connection. [code]
My requirment is to drop the Internet traffic once the Cisco HWIC 3G backup link will become active(attached) .Because I should allow only Business Critical Data allow through that and others should drop. Here are the config I used. In here I used a standard access list to generate intersting traffic which allow all the traffic traverse through the backup link. Can I drop the packets to the proxy (192.168.1.100) using this access list and allow other traffic.access-list 1 deny 192.168.1.100access-list 1 permit anydialer-list 1 protocol ip list 1.Is this the proper way I should follow ? Is there any other good method to achieve my requirement ? [code]
The customer has an existing ISDN30 - 8 channels backup circuit what was originally terminated to a C2611XM Now they required to replace this old router with a new one.The old router build:
I need to make some perfomances (like up/down GRE tunnels) on Cisco ISR 2921 by sending SMS. It could be doing by using 3G modem like a Huawei and a server with some expect/SSH-scripts.
But ISR gen.2 has EHWIC-3G modules, which working with GSM networks and they can send/recieve SMS. I think, that it should be an EEM event or some another way to track comming SMS and process it by TCL-script — get a sender number, SMS body and make usefull perfomances on my router (up/down GRE tunnels in my case).
If I done this trick only by using an ISR router and EHWIC-3G module, it will be much more stable scheme in that we dont have extra components (server, modem) potentially may falls.
Unfortunately, there are too low information about configuring this modules (especially, SMS-part) and I dont find usefull for me.
I've recently changed my DSL connection to HSPA because of low speed of DSL connection (2000).
Anyway, I need to build up 5 Ghz networking at home but there is no dual band HSPA modem router on the market. I need a router which supports DLNA/UPnP for NAS Server. So, I have couple of solutions...
1- I can purchase dual-band Asus RT-N66U and use HSPA/UMTS stick to use this router as main router. I can do this because RT-N66U supports sticks via USB.
2- I can connect my HSPA modem to a dual-band router via LAN and by changing IP adresses I can use dual-band router again as a main modem router. This can be no problem via WAN but my modem has no WAN connection. Is this possible via LAN?
Or do you have any other solution how I can get my 5 Ghz netwroking at home using HSPA connection.
what is the simplest way to create backup WAN connection?I have setup 2 WAN connection(2 ISP, 1 is DIA w/ fix ip, 2 is 3G), but if I enable both interface ,then I unplug WAN 1. no traffic goes to WAN 2.I have already have 3G connection enable all the time (w/ command "dialer persistent") Cisco 2811+ Cisco-HWIC-3G,
Just recently purchased an RVS4000 to take the place of an old NetGear FVS336, which supported multiple NAT translations. It appears that the RVS4000 does not support this, any other models in the small business line support this? I only need this for a backup Internet connection?
We have a few WAN connecting sites to ISP using BGP. we are looking at getting backup link for 1 site.
We have decide to use an IP WAN ADS L link. we will have 877 and 2800 for each link. from understanding, we have a static routing on IPWAN service. means when both BGP WAN and IP WAN connected to the ISP. ISP will use ADSL as primary ignore the BGP link. so other sites will see a BGP route coming from ISP via the ADSL link for this location.
So we have find a manuel solution, leave ADSL unplugged of power but setup same LAN ip address and connect the cable towards the core switch. when WAN link fail, switch on ADSL. So the static route will advertise to the rest of sites.
just want to know is there any auto solution can disable the ADSL link/ ppp link when the 2800/WAN route is up. and enable the ADSL port when the WAN is down. not sure if HSRP/backup interface/tracking will work? and how?
site office switch - > 2800 - > ISP - > ADSL -> ISP (need this link to be backup and protocol down, so the ISP will not able to connect to this link and advertise as next hop)
I have two site that has a copper wire ( 2 wire) connection between each router ( No Telco in between ). Now I want to use 1921 router with HWIC-4SHDSL-E card to connect these two site together. Can I use attach configuration to make the connection reference from the diagram ?
I have a client that has an ASA 5520 that has two internet connections, FIOS and Comcast. The ASA is configured to failover from the FIOS to the Comcast if the FIOS fails. This works perfectly fine. However, I was wondering if VPN and other inbound traffic will come into the secondary connection when it is active. I think VPN will work inbound when the FIOS connection fails, but I am not sure about the other inbound connections.

I am having problems with these types of 3G cards(EHWIC-3G-HSPA+7) from Cisco. We are using them on ships where we have a SAT connection and the 3G connection. Fail over between the two connections are handled by an IP SLA echo and a track on the cellular interface, towards an public IP where we have configured a static route to via the Cellular interface.
Once configured the connection comes up fine, the VPN tunnels comes up and all is good. But after some time the connection dies, the track goes down because no data goes through.a sh cell 0/0/0 all however say that the profile is active.
What is the difference between HWIC-1ADSL-M and HWIC-1ADSL without the "-M"?Can either of the above ADSL cards be used in Cisco 3845 router? We are using HWIC-1ADSL-M in our Cisco 3845 routers everywhere?
I have a DLSW connectivity between 2800 series router and 7206 router. AS 400 is directly connected to 2800 series router and other server is connected directly to 7206 router. now i want to add one more server which will work as backup for the server connected to 7206 . What would be the connectivity/configuration to make it working in case primary server connected to 7206 is down or connection would automatically needs to shift on its backup server.
i have a dell mini 10 that had ubuntu but i put vista on it and after i did it my network controller wont install and i downloaded almost every driver dell had and one worked but i had the 39 error code, the driver that worked was DELL_WIRELESS-5530-HSPA-MINI_A06_R220877 but had 39 error code
I am thinking about buying Dell 5550 module to my Latitude E6410. I know that for E6410 is designed 5540 module, but newer 5550 for E6420 has ability to use faster HSPA+ networks.
So my question is, any info on this combination of Latitude E6410 and Dell 5550 module?
why I can't use cisco ehwic-3g-hspa-u card in cisco 2800 series and 1841 series router?documentation said that it should work with that devices but when I installed it, it doesn't work even as device i can't see I am using cisco latest ios advance ent. 15.1(4)M4?
I have an existing C2821 router (2 onboard GE + 1 HWIC-2FE) currently. Like to add another 1 HWIC-2FE. Saw this doc on Cisco website which states Max of 2 HWIC-2FE for Cisco2821. Want to confirm this is indeed so as another link states max of 1 HWIC-2FE.
I want a low cost solution router with 16 10/100 routed ports...The idea is to club 16 different segments on ofc to this router via media convertor and there will be dynamic protocols such as EIGRP or higher running between these segments.
The router needs to be security enabled...the equipments needs to be a router by defination (not a layer 3 switch)..As per my understanding there is limitation on number of HWIC-2 FE that can be put in ISR G2 series due to which I cannot reach that figure...
Kindly let me know if i can use SM-ES3-16-P in the place of HWIC-2FE for this kind of requirement.
