D-Link DIR-655 :: Allow ICMP 8 (Ping) Pass Through?
Dec 21, 2010
I would like to passthrough ICMP 8 (ping) requests through the DIR-655 to my server. I found where to allow the router to respond to ICMP 8 requests, however, I do not want the router to responder, rather the server itself. Is there a way to pass these requests through to the server?

I setup and SSL anyconnect VPN on my Cisco ASA 5505. It works well and connects with out a problem. However, I can't ping any internal clients, but I can RDP to them. Most of the time people end up posting their config so I will as well.

I need to remotely monitor a WRT45G from a remote host on the Internet. As such, I want to allow ICMP ping replies on the public Internet interface. However, I have found no feature to allow me to do this. Similar Netgear devices do allow this feature. I suspect the answer is, "you can't do that".

Is it possible to use protocol binding to route pings only over the WAN1 connection, even if WAN1 fails? It seems like the protocol binding feature of the Linksys RV042 is ignored once WAN1 fails. I would like to use a ping from the LAN to an external IP to verify if the WAN1 connection is down, or is up and then use that information to power up, or power down a secondary communications system (WAN2). However, if the protocol binding is ignored when WAN1 fails, then I will not be able to use the ping to establish the state of WAN1 connection. Addtionally, is it possible to use protocol binding to only route pings and allow all other traffic to use either WAN connection? I have seen these feautures on a different brand of router that failsover to a cell connection, but it is not a true dual WAN router. It would be nice if the RV042 would allow this kind of control. Are there any other dual WAN routers out there that have this kind of protocol binding feature?

Cannot get the SG200-8 to mirror any traffic other than ping (icmp).
Factory default settings, with port 7 src to port 1 dst on session 1.
Pings mirror just fine. But other traffic. such as web and ssh, is not being mirrored.

I've just started a CCNA course and my lack of knowledge has me a bit stuck. My network is comprised of Cisco components and I'm semi familiar with them just from reading and looking through options. I currently am using a Cisco ASA 5520 on my network and I am trying to join another network via one of the interfaces. My network is 192.168.0.0 255.255.0.0 and my inside interface is 192.168.1.1 255.255.0.0. I enabled a second interface using a static ip of 10.0.0.1 with a subnet of 255.255.255.128. Connected to that interface, I have a Fortigate firewall at 10.0.0.2 255.255.255.128. I can ping just fine from the Fortigate network to the 10.0.0.1 interface on the Cisco ASA 5520 network, but I can not ping the 10.0.0.1 interface (or anything past it) on the ASA 5520 from any computer on the Cisco network. I've read that ACL's and NAT have to be done as well as enabling traffic between interfaces with the same security levels. (both interfaces have security levels of 100 and the option is checked to allow traffic).
Note: each network has it's own internet connection. The connection is to share information on servers on both networks with each other.

Today one of our 9 Cisco switches a "WS-C2950S" (we also got 2 other WS-C2950S on same network) stop responding icmp ping packages. When i tried to telnet the switch its network was unreachable but i was able to see its existance from other switches by "sh cdp neig". So i decided to fix the situation on a suitable night time work, checking by console cable or even rebooting the device.
Then i started to wonder... what this could possibly be about? We have like 40 clients behind that switch and there was no communication problem during the problem.

When we install an HWIC-2FE card in slot 0 or slot 1 of a 3845, the interface fails to pass any ping packet greater in size than 449 bytes. It works fine up until that limit is reached, but then fails completely on a larger size packet. If we move to slot 3 or slot 4 on the 3845, the card works just fine! I have looked through the cisco official bug tracker for HWIC-2FE, but could not find a similar symptom listed. We're running advanced ip services 12.4(24)T7 code on the routers. Any software fix or if this is a platform problem with the 3800 series.

I just bought a DIR-601. It comes with an installation process on CD.The process fails at the point where I make the connection from my DSL modem to the DIR-601. The installation program reports that there is no internet connection. (Note that to get this far in the installation process the installation program has already tested for a valid internet connection before the DIR-601 is inserted into the chain)Although the LED on the front of the DIR-601 indicates it is getting an internet connection from the DSL modem, it does not pass it on to my PC (already connected to the DIR-601). My PC reports "no internet access".

got this problem within the last few days
UPnP renew entry 255.255.255.255 <-> 68.98.71.182:61041 <-> 192.168.0.197:61041 UDP timeout:-1 'Teredo' (this one repeated 13 times just in that 1 info slot)
Blocked outgoing ICMP packet (ICMP type 3) from 192.168.0.197 to 109.185.100.195
Blocked incoming TCP packet from 108.170.42.83:80 to 68.98.71.182:36792 as SYN:ACK received but there is no active connection
this goes on for a multiple of different ip's and i believe its due to the fact that the game i play is p2p
QoS is off spi is off udp and tcp endpoint independent firmware version 1.21 i am using wireless cable isp using motorola sb5101 i believe i port forwarded the ports used for the game but that didnt work so i put my computer into dmz. I've also noticed a lot more jitter then i used to have and my upload speed is down about 4mbps. Was thinking it might just be outdated firmware?

Using as AP. Last Tuesday in the middle of a Netflix movie the video stopped. Now the wireless portion of the DAP-1522 refuses to pass any type of video. Everything else works (email, Google, Facebook, etc.). I can get to Netflix, Youtube, Yahoo, etc. .....but none of them will pass video.
Using a direct wired connection to the DAP-1522 everything works. Netflix, Youtube, etc.
Download speed checks at 17.74mbps.

I am probably missing something so obvious, but I have been working on it for three days. I received a new modem DSL 2750B and have it LAN wired to my Dell Studio 1555. I asked my techy step son to hook it up to wireless while I was away. He could not do it and worked with Verizon to create a home network changing the SSID and WPA Key. They spent about a hour together on line and could not get the wireless to work and Verizon said its a problem with the Studio 1555.
So, I have been working on it since and can not fix it. The Studio is out of warranty and I have Windows 7 Home Edition. I spent a day and a half to finally get the Function F2 button to work and turn on wireless. This was only possible after downloading the Dell Quick Set and now the Radio On button shows in my Windows Mobility display. I checked my BIOS and Radio, WiFI, and WAN are all enabled.
When I boot up I can see the wireless network showing as available and at excellent strength. I click it to connect and it fails authentication. I ping the router at 192.168.1.1 and it shows both wired LAN and wireless LAN connected. So, I go to Wireless and go through the push button method of signing on to the router, pressing the WPS button on the router. It "spins" for 120 seconds and says fails enrollment.
I am thinking that I should have my laptop and router all reset and eliminate the network Verizon and my step son set up. This would give me a clean start and I can use the SSID and WPA key that came with the router..but, I'm not sure that is it or am I missing something else.

I'm trying to do port forwarding on my DIR-615...first of all I need to be able to ping the router from outside! I did enable the ping options to allow request from WAN...still don't work!!I removed the router and plug my laptop directly on my cable modem adapter and I'm able to ping my IP address (did put the same address the router had)...so, the IP is OK and it is possible to get in the modem from outside.I did plug back the router, and still not working...I did some trick like enable all IP with the Inbound filter...give access to few MAC address that I have to give more chances to get in and still not working!!!

I recently bought a new DLink 615 E4 router. After a botched firmware update, I attempted to enter the emergency room.I got in once, and tried to upload the firmware using Internet Explorer 8, but it was stuck there for over two hours without any progress (stuck at the browse/upload page), so I disconnected it.
I haven't been able to enter the Emergency room since then. I get to the point where the power light blinks orange, and connecting my laptop to the router using the wired connection lights up the proper LAN light, but I cannot ping or access 192.168.0.1 anymore.

Using DIR-601 hardware version B1, Firmware 2.00NA, I am debugging problems I've had with this router, so it is set up on my network so I can access it from both the WAN and LAN side. If I ping the router from the WAN side, I get a very fast response. But when I disable ping from the administrative tools from the LAN side and reboot the router, I still get responses to my ping! I know the router is responding because if I disconnect the WAN cable from the router (connected to "INTERNET", the pings stop. So the router is ignoring user settings at Advanced->Advanced Network->WAN PING! Looks like a firmware bug.

I am running a DAP-1522 (v1.21) in Bridge mode with a DIR-615 (1.00VG). I have configured the DAP-1522 to access the WiFi network and can see it connects correctly. I have a PC connected to the DAP-1522. Most of the time I can ping the DAP-1522 from the PC but cannot ping the DIR-615. Occasionally when I reboot everything again I can ping the DIR-615 and get full internet access but this usually only lasts a minute or so then it drops. After that I can only ping the DAP-1522. The DAP-1522 always says the Status is "connected" though.
The IP addresses are as follows:
DIR-615: 192.168.0.1
DAP-1522: 192.168.0.50 (static)
PC: 192.168.0.55 (static)

I have a machine called 'survtest' on my lan with a permanent ip addr of 192.168.0.112. I can't ping that host by name from any other machine on the lan, although I can ping the ip address. Not only that but this machine appears in the DHCP client list within the router with its name 'survtest' and correct IP addr.
There is another machine on the lan called 'bsd' that also has a permanent IP addr of 192.168.0.110. It can be pinged by name from any other machine on the lan. However it does not show up in the DHCP client list at all.
Neither of these machines can be pinged by name from within the tplink admin diagnostic screen.

Both my DIR-655 and DIR-815, when setup as wireless access points, are unable to ping external IP addresses and thus cannot contact the dlink ntp servers. I've disabled UPnP, disabled DHCP, changed the LAN IP address to an available address on the network. The wireless works, devices are getting an IP from the network DHCP server and can surf the internet. But the DLink router itself cannot ping any external IP addresses. Since buying and using this router about 1 month ago, I've had latency problems. With my Linksys WRT54GL, my latency has always been consistent. However, pinging to google (as a benchmark), my ping is a good 50-70 higher than directly plugging into my router. Directly into my modem I get 10-20ms pings; through the router, I get minimum 60ms up to 100ms spikes. When using the Linksys router, my ping would be 20-30s. I really hope it's just a settings problem. I've turned off QoS and wireless to isolate the connection to just wired, but it still persists. I really hope I can fix this problem, else I am going to buy a different router over the weekend. I can't play FPS games like Bad Company 2 with such high latency.

I bought a DIR-600 a couple of months ago. Days later started experiencing problems, connection would drop, and only way to restore connection was to reset the router. It has its password configured, a secure wireless connection also configured, and Wan Ping is disabled.Yesterday I called D-Link support, and they asked me to update firmware (from 2.03 to 2.05). I did, but problem still here.Today I realized that there is a log section, and when I entered this is what I found?

I was having very high ping spikes (up to 2000ms) in my online gaming. I even had high spikes (up to 80ms) just pinging my router. It happened with every computer on the network. After several weeks, I narrowed it down to one thing: Enable DNS Relay. I unticked that, and instantly the spikes went away. However, my brother's Blackberry Playbook has been acting up now that DNS Relay is disabled. Basically, every day, the internet on that thing screeches to a halt, forcing him to reconnect to the network. It's basically a minor inconvenience, but it's one I want to correct. If I turn on DNS Relay again, the ping spikes will return. Interestingly, I switched ISPs during this time. I'm on cable now. I used to be on DSL with a different router, yet I had the exact same problem. The blackberry is probably integral to this problem. So I'd like to know if there's anything I can do to make DNS Relay work properly, allowing his stupid Blackberry to work, while maintaining the integrity of the network.

We are testing a new 1Gbps WAN circuit between 2 sites. We have cisco 3750 and 4507 on each end. Every time we run extended ping sweep ranging from 36 to 18024 bytes the packets are being dropped randomly once the size goes above 1500 bytes. Our ISP claims Demark to Demark test are clean and they don't want to acknowledge the problem, they blame our switches. To prove the problem is not on our end we've put different switches at each end, still facing the same issue. Ping success rate is around 98 to 99 percent.
