Linksys WRT54G2 - Limit A Guest's Wireless Access?

Oct 24, 2012

I have a Linksys WRT54G2 wireless router that is used in an office setting. We have, of course, set a password to access (wireless) the internet and local file sharing network from a laptop. Occasionally, however, we have guests that want to access the internet. Is it possible to give the guest a temporary password that is different than the main one? Also, is it possible to limit the guest to only the internet and not the local file sharing network?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2000 / Limit Bandwidth Speed Of Guest Accounts?

How can I limit bandwidth speed of guest accounts? Or are there free softwares available to do something like that? It's kinda like the hotspot softwares - where we can set hourly, daily, monthly allowances and see a report on their connectivity.

Finding Wireless Access Password Linksys WRT54G2?

forgot password for Linksys WRT54G2 and can't connect wife's new Ipad; i'm not real popular at the moment. went on cisco site and they gave a technique where you input IP address and a screen is supposed to pop up with a "wireless" tab, then give access to another tab where you can view your pw.BTW, if I reset it entirely do I have to reset each of the computers now hooked up to it?

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G2 / No Internet Access

Oct 28, 2011

I have a WRT54G2 router and when I try to connect to the internet, both wired and wirelessly, my network icon gives me a "No Internet Access" yellow sign icon. I have successfully connected to the internet by directly connecting to the modem and I have connected to other wireless networks using this computer so I have pretty much narrowed the problem down to the router. I have already perform a firmware upgrade to the latest version and did a hard reset of the router and setting it back up, to no avail. One problem I ran into while I was setting up though was that I can't even set it up with the WiFi-protected setup so I had to set up the password and stuff manually, as I have always done successfully in the past. I've never had a problem with this router in the past and so I think this router may be due for a replacement. I have contacted support through live chat and all the options they're giving me is either pay $25 to talk to someone about this or go through troubleshoot section.

WRT54G2 - Monitor And Limit Amount Of Bandwidth Everyone Uses?

Sep 10, 2012

So lately this week, one rogue user from the boarding house has been downloading(possibly torrenting)/streaming to his/her heart's content resulting in extremely slow connections for everyone else. I've been using an Android app to list all devices connected to the network, and one-by-one, manually disconnected each one to find the problematic, bandwidth-hogging IP. I've found that said user continued to use up bandwidth even up to the wee hours of the morning.

I managed to find his/her IP address, I know I could just block sites/ports via the router's control panel but I guess it's not that simple because: a.) Whoever setup the wireless on our floor forgot the username/password combo(not even the landlady knows) b.) I've asked management about asking for access to the router. Being the IT student on the floor, I guess I'll take the responsibility of at least limiting the rogue user's bandwidth so everyone else on our floor has a fair share.

So my question is: is there a way to limit an IP/application's bandwidth usage via a non-router control panel method, without having to do a hard reset on the router? I have tried in vain to use the Android app I used, but all it takes is a router reboot to disable it (said user knows how to reset the router). It's been days since we've had a stable connection for legitimate schoolwork usage because of this one IP that's using up all the resources.

The router on our floor is a Linksys WRT54G2 and my operating system is Windows 7 64-bit.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G2 - Unable To Access It Via Webpage

Feb 28, 2013

I have a continuing problem with my WRT54G2 wireless router.  I set up my network, changing the password for the router, and I change the SSID, as well as the encryption password.  When I set it up, and after changing passwords etc.  I always log off, go back and log on, and it works fine.  Once I set up the network, over time, I'll notice a device will no longer connect via wireless.  When that happens, I try to log on to the router, and can not connect to the router using either Firefox or IE.  When I try, I get Internal Server Error, or just nothing.  I can ping the router, and if I run an IPCONFIG at this point, the default gateway does show 192.168.1.1.    Every time this starts to happen, I must do a hard reset of the router.  Once  I do this, I can connect, and log on using the default settings, and re-set everything.  This is a HUGE pain, as it takes a lot of time, and happens way too often.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G2 Won't Allow Internet Access For Multiple Devices

My PC will connect just fine, but it is the only device on my network that the router will allow internet access. The router will allow other devices (DVR, laptop, nook) to connect to it, but won't allow those devices to connect to the internet. Each device will show the same error, - "connected to linksys - no internet". I've reset the router many times with no results.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G2 V1 - Access PPPoE Modem With Wired Ethernet?

Oct 13, 2011

I am using the WRT54G2 connected to a cable modem that requires a PPPoE login.  I followed the Service Providers instructions and cloned the modems MAC address to the WRT54G and setup the PPPoE user id and password.  I can then plug my PC into one of the Ethernet connections on the back of the WRT54G and everything works as expected.  First I connect to the WRT54G2 and then I open a PPPoE connection in my network settings and it logs into the service provider and everything works as expected.  But when I connect to the WRT5G2 wirelessly I connect to the AP fine.  When I open the same PPPoE connection to the service provider it fails, the message says I have the wrong userid or password or that the protocol is not supported.  Of course I know the userid and password is correct because it works when connected with Ethernet cable.  I have tried disabling the security on the wireless network but that did not seem to work. The modem is a HomePNA HCNA Voice Endpoint.I am at the latest firmware 1.0.04.

Cisco Wireless :: 3502 - WLC User Rate Limit On Guest SSID Anchor Controller

Jul 30, 2012

We have been deploying 3502 APs remotely to locations with full T1s that backhaul to where I sit at HQ. Both the foreign and anchor controller are here at my location.

I am seeking to rate limit per user the bandwidth each client will get on the guest internet ssid. As you know this traffic is encapsulated in capwap between the AP and the controller so I cant use a standard ACL on the switch or router.

We are trying to keep the guest internet access usage in check on the T1 at any given site so the other ssid's & local lan traffic is not overly competing for the bandwidth.

I found the place to edit the default profiles in the controller but the documentation really isnt clear on best practices.

So I put it to you my fellow wireless engineers to suggest how you are implementing bandwidth management on your wireless guest internet.

Oh and here is my hardware & software levels.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT120N - Use NetMagic To Limit Ipod Access

Aug 24, 2012

I have NM 5.5.9195.0 and WRT120N Linksys router.  I have an Ipod using WIFI to connect to the network which I would like to restrict times for.  Using the access restriction page in the manage/setup of the router seems to not work well.  The system does recognize the MAC address of the Ipod but setting times to allow or deny gives me odd results.  The allow button actually denies use for one thing.  Secondly, the deny time ends, but the Ipod still cannot connect sometimes.  It is like the system gets stuck in deny.  I have tested using a random 5 minute deny time period, yet the Ipod is denied all times.  The system is consistent in denying the Ipod (actually using the allow button) but not on the times.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3000 Possible To Limit Access For Specific Device (PC) To LAN Only

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA3500 Guest Access Keeps Going Down

Sep 7, 2012

The guest network on the router keeps going down. It can be seen but it cannot be connected to. Sometimes it works for a day or 2 and then it doesn't. I have to constantly babysit the network and it is entirely frustrating because the only fix is to reboot the router.I have tried factory resetting several times.I have tried re-flashing the fw.I'm using the non-CCC fw because CCC had way, way too many issues. These routers have been out for months and many people have been having issues and somehow Cisco doesn't see fit to work on firmware that stabilizes them at all? It's like, they release a router and then forget about it - the next batch comes along, often the same guts with a different shell and it's the same thing over again. I had a WRT610N and I said I'd never buy another Cisco after that but I broke my rule because of being lured by these "App enabled" features, which mind you have nothing at all over the competition since the CCC doesn't even work for most people.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Guest Access On E3200?

Nov 14, 2011

Purchased E3200 and did simple setup via CD setup (Cisco connect).  Set up main name and password. Cisco Connect assigned "-guest" to end of main name for the guest account.  Gave guest account its own password.  Both main and guest accounts were broadcasting OK -- but guest account was not secure and could be accessed without password.  (All software and firmware upgrades were done during initial setup).Reset the E3200 and restarted things from the CD setup.  Created main account, main account password, and guest password again.  In advanced settings, left basic wireless settings at initial settings, changed wireless secutiy to WPA2 Personal.  Still having the guest account being broadcast in unlocked status. (Have turned off guest access for now until I can get password protection for it).

The screen appears to "load", but it does not connect.I have tried returning to default settings and reconfiguring and reupdating firmware. I have tried turning Guest Access on and off, as well as resetting the password. The only that works is rebooting the router. This is obviously not practical, especially for a contract client.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Disable Guest Access On E1000?
