My WRT54G Linksys router works with wifi and local connection but it wont let me configure to change it to PPpoe nor wont let me enable a wireless connection, so it's open to the public how do i get it to open it resetting it and holding the button on the router for 30 secs.
View 1 RepliesI ran the firmware upgrade and hit the reset button for 30 seconds and everything went well until I went to restore my personal settings. When I went to the router page it asked for a user name and password but the old user name and password don't work so I am locked out and can't get to the restore page.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using a PPPoE connection using a linksys WRT54G router (working perfectly) and am now trying to set up an Edimax EW-7206APg to extend my wireless connection range. I followed the instructions given on the Edimax manual, and while my devices (iPad, laptop) got connected to the new repeater network, I could not access the Internet from it. I may be wrong, but the instructions on the Edimax manual seemed to be for a DHCP connection. Is there anything different I need to do to configure the Edimax repeater on a PPPoE connection?My router IP ("Local IP address") shows 10.10.0.1 instead of the "192.168.1.1" that all the documentation online seems to suggest.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently set up a wrt54g router that I got used from a friend. I pressed the 'reset' button on the back, configured it for my computer according to the instructions on the website, and everything worked fine for a couple of days. Then I lost connectivity, tried powercycling my modem, but had to reset and reconfigure the router again. Worked fine again for a couple of days, then the problem repeated itself, so I reset and reconfigured again.Â

In order to isolate myself from my roomates and to protect my network connection, both wired and WiFi, I would like to plug in the Ethernet cable I get from the Gateway to my router, and then configure my router's firewall and WiFi enctryption to maximize my safety.

However, I am having some problems. I have already configured the router as "router" and not "Gateway" and I am trying to assign it an IP address different from the default one, which is the one the gateway has, and a ranger of DHCP IP's, also different from those of the Gateway. In other words, 192.1681.N.1 for the router and start from there.
I don´t really have the RJ45 cable, how to configure it as an access point wirelessly? I mean,just by entering the main menu with the default ip address.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to replace my actiontec router with the Cisco 871 I have little expirience with CLI-IOS so I was trying to use sdm express that failed to load and when I finally got it to load it still didnt work and I ended up getting locked out of the router it was totally unresponsive. So I did a reset and now am attempting to use the Cisco Configuration Assistant to set up my wan connection but it have been loading security related data for 15 minutes and I have a feeling it's not doing anything at all. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong.... Any advice.... But the SMC is capable of Wireless N, while the Linksys is only capable of wireless G.So I want to turn my SMC into a router + modem again, but I can't figure out how to do it. I tried resetting to factory defaults by holding the reset button at the back of the unit for 30 seconds but it didn't work.I can get it to work with a wired connection, but when I type ipconfig /all into CMD, it doesn't show any default gateway, so I can't access the router online. I've tried various different IPs like 192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1, etc., but none of them work.

I just put DD-WRT firmware on it. I have a Linksys E1000 as my primary router. All I want to do is be able to to put the Secondary router (WRT54G) downstairs near the bluray player and run an ethernet cable from the lan port on the router to the ethernet port on the bluray player to get internet access. I have 2 Dell computers; a desktop and a laptop which I use wirelessly in the house.After doing several things from disconnecting the router to try and determine if the problem was with my router or an ethernet cable AT&T determined a port on my router which is 6 years old could be going bad and recommended I replace my router.I contacted Linksys yesterday; spoke to tech support for my WRT54G router and was given 2 model recommendations. One was a Model E900 N300 and a more expensive model; an EA2700 N600. There is a price difference of $40.00 USD between the 2 models. I could probably get by with the E900 N300 for $49.99 but the guy at Linksys was putting the pressure on me to buy the more expensive one for $89.99. I told him I'd have to think about it.

However, when I tried to change the SSID to a unique name, I was unable to connect my computer to the wireless network. I then reset my security settings and left the SSID to the default name "linksys_SES_54125" and it is working just fine. I tried to connect with two separate computers both running Windows 7. I have tried multiple times to hard reset my Wireless G WRT54G ver.2 router, but have had no success. I held the reset for 15 sec, 30 sec, 2 min, etc and also tried holding it and then unplugging it and then plugging it back in. I've tried everything that I have seen suggested. My problem is that I don't know what the password is to access my router's web utility thing and I need to change the IP address. With every reset attempt, I hope that the default admin password will work, but sadly no.

My temporary solution is to disconnect the power from the router for about 15 seconds and plug it back in .... and all is well.... at least for another day or so.The real problem is that instead of properly connecting to IPv4 address 192.168.1.100 ..... it randomly connects to Autoconfiguration IPv4 address 169.254.29.54 When this problem occurs the SSID list shows both my 192 connection as well as a public network with no Internet connection?

I've used this router for several years without a problem until I recently bought a new Canon wireless MG5320 printer which initially had problems connecting to my LAN. After a telco with tech support the printer works fine but now I am now experiencing the Autoconfig address problem.My LAN consist of the WRT54G router, a Motorola cable modem, a Lenovo laptop running Win7 64bit, a Hp desktop running Win7 64bit and the Canon wireless printer. (all connected wirelessly)
I am a medical student and I use my college wifi to download torrent files via utorrent. Earlier they have blocked torrent sites, So... I use to download the torrent address via my 3G Dongle and then open it in the utorrent to download the whole file ( 4 GB or 8 GB size). The WiFi provides about 1-2 Mbps speed and the files ude to download very easily . But, now along with the blocked site , ... the utorrent is not catching speed.
