Block / Limit Facebook Use On A TrendNet TEW-692GR?
Feb 29, 2012
How to configure a TrendNet TEW-692GR to block/limit Facebook and other websites on one or all computers that access the wireless router. We homeschool and the boys are having trouble dealing with the distraction of social media while using their computers to get school work done.
I've tried listing FB IP address ranges (the 66s, 69s and the 204s) in Access Control and under IP Range Block Rules, and using the schedule page to set an access schedule. Everything looks reasonable but we can all still access FB. What am I missing? I think I found all the IPs for FB, maybe not? Not truly clear if the schedule is for times to block or times to access.

I have a new TEW-692GR router attached to an UBEE DVM3203B cable modem. For the last several days the WAN light on the router and the LINK light on the cable modem flash on a continual basis. This seemed to happen after establishing a wireless connection between a new LG smart tv and the router but am not sure if that in fact caused the issue. I have power cycled all devices on my network in an attempt to clear this up but no joy.

I am attempting to block Facebook on a WRT160N firmware v3.0.00. I have a successful policy that blocks edit.com for instance and attempted to add url... I don't want to add keyword blocking as multiple news articles are in regards to Facebook. We simply do not want the Facebook website allowed. I tested the other policies on a network-wide setting, applying it to all IPs successfully, added Facebook to them and it goes right around the block. My guess is that Facebook is most likely designed to make it purposely difficult to block.
I went through the recent articles in search, but they primarily dealt with incorrect application of the policy (spec'ing MAC, or IPs), which isn't the case here. Eventually I will apply the policies to specific Macs, but I want them to work first.

I want to block sites like facebook during my workday but allow the rest of the internet.
The attached settings block facebook as desired during the filter times but after 6:30pm the filter expires and the entire internet is blocked (not just facebook). All of my browsers act as if they are hanging and won't load pages until I disable the filter.
I've also tried creating two different filters (one at a time). The first allowed full internet access all the time and the second allowed access the opposite times of the work filter. But to no avail.

On E4200 Firmware Version: 1.0.03, I managed to successfully set up "Internet Access Policy" (not the "Parental Controls") to set up the times when internet access is disabled for various IPs on my network.
But I could't setup a policy to block facebook.com. What I am doing wrong? See the attached screen shot. I did click the "Edit List" and apply this polity to the IP Address Range 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254.

We just had a TEW-72GR router fail and replaced it with a TEW-GR. Now I am unable to get to my domain (mydomain.net) from outside the network. Inside the network, all appears to be fine. I can enter that address and get to the site with no issues. We use SBS 2008 with windows 7 clients. All clients can get out to the web, we can send and receive emails, but I can not access the domain.

i have a trendnet tpe-s44 switch and i need to reset it. it is installed in a network with a pos system, and i need to change the security from wep to wpa-2. i also cannot use the web interface to get to the login screen. from what i gather, it should be admin admin at 192.168.0.1, but the network it came from had a 192.168.5 scheme. i also cannot find a reset button, i even took it apart to look for jumpers. that sucks, i can configure a cisco from the command line almost in my sleep

I have just set up a wireless trendnet router. Everything is set up normal and its working correctly, it correctly assigns internal IPs to wireless devices. The problem is though that for some reason we all get disconnected in games for instance and some games more than others. Rift disconnects every 30 seconds to 1 minute, World of Warcraft disconnects often, Live Messenger disconnects as well, Age of Empires Online can sometimes work fine for hours, then sometimes disconnect every now and then. Steam doesn't disconnect. Its more or less the same on any of our laptops. (all running Windows 7 64 Bit Home Premium or Professional)

My internet connection setup is: PC -> Trendnet 632 BRP wi-fi router (via Ethernet cable) - > D-Link DSL-2520U modem (via Ethernet cable, PPPoE) -> Internet. I have other devices connected to my Trendnet router via Wi-Fi connection (Notebook, PS3, XBOX, iPhone). My ISP gave me two DNS servers wich I have entered in my Trendnet. But when I look at the DNS tab in my D-Link I see two different DNS servers witch is not the same I entered in Trendnet.hey was set automatically when I created new DSL connection. I've also tried to leave the DNS adress tab as it was by default (0.0.0.0) in Trendnet router and after that my network still works normal. And when I look at the WAN status tab in Trendnet settings the DNS servers is set automatically to 192.168.1.1.So I have 3 questions for you:1) Do I really need to enter those DNS servers that my ISP gave me or I can just leave it to DHCP to manage them?2) If I have entered ISP's DNS servers in Trendnet then witch DNS servers is actually I'm using the ones my ISP gave me or the ones that my D-Link have picked automatically?

I have set up a wireless home network using ADSL with the following components: TrendNet TEW- 432 BRP Wireless Router Gateway Desktop with Windows 7 OS, iMac desktop with Leopard 10.5.7 OS Compaq Presario Notebook with Vista Home Premium OS Service Pack 2 I am able to connect to the network with all 3 but I have a problem with the Notebook. It is very slow to connect and sometimes takes 15 minutes or more to find the network. Once it is connected it works fine and doesnt disconnect, but if I have to reboot for any reason the same problem occurs. It does not appear to be a problem with the placement of the router and the signal strength which is "very good" to "excellent". I say "slow to connect (again)" because this had occurred before and I returned the laptop under warranty. HP replaced the wireless network card and it worked fine, but the problem has come back over a year later. I suspect that the card is not at fault and that the problem is elsewhere but I am at a loss as to what it might be.

Im using an old tower with XP SP3. Most if not all drivers are up to date.I recently have come home from college where the computer connected to the internet through a cable and i now have to use wireless.I went out and bought a Trendnet TEW-648UB Wireless n adapter, installed it and tried to connect to my home network. It has been going from acquiring network address to no connection every ten seconds then repeating. I am fairly sure that this is not the router because i am on my sisters desktop which is a wireless connection and im on the internet. so far i have:
checked to make sure that WZC is enabled, it is.
tried checking and unchecking the Use Windows to to configure my wireless network settings
enabling and disabling my adapter
reinstalling my adapter
repairing connection
disabling any and all firewalls
ipconfig /release
ipoconfig /renew
netsh int ip reset reset.log
netsh winsock reset catalog
lots of computer restarting
and for good measure i pinged 192.168.4.1 and ping 24.229.54.212 not sure why but kinda frustrated so why not
here's the cmd stuff:

While I have been VERY happy using my DIR-655 for the most part, all wireless routers have limitations for expansion across your home.I got my TrendNet TEW-640MB installed last night, and it talks to the 655 perfectly, and now I have 4 ethernet ports at distance across my house. I have also used a couple TrendNet TEW647Ga single port wireless bridge for other parts of my home, but with only a single Ethernet port, you still need a little switch/hub to get the extra ports.
Because these units speak .11N at 300 Mbps, it takes full advantage of the technology the 655 gave me when I bought it back in 2009 (??).

I cannot install the drivers for my TrendNet TEW-423PI network interface card. I am running Windows 7 64-bit with an Intel i7 2700k and an Asus motherboard. I have tried installing with the card already in the computer - no luck. Card out of the computer install and then shut off and put in - no luck. The instructions that come with the card say that after you install the program that instantly runs from the CD provided you should shut off the computer and install the card and when you turn the computer back on the drivers will install automatically. It has failed to do so and although I pulled all possible drivers from TrendNet's site it still stubbornly refuses to even recognize that there are drivers for it to install.

I am trying to allow an external website access to my http://localhost:8080. It is a trusted website.
I have a ZyXel Q1000 modem and a Trendnet TEW-452BRP router. The TRENDnet is serving a PS3, Xbox, Wii, and 2 iMacs and the ZyXel is serving the TRENDnet.
My public IP for the ZyXel is 65.xxx.xx.152 and it's IP address is 192.168.0.1 with a range of 192.168.0.2-254 My TRENDnet IP is 192.168.1.1 and a range of 192.168.1.100-199
I have setup a Virtual Server on the TRENDnet using HTTP, Protocol TCP 80/80 and LAN Server 198.168.1.109 (my iMac localhost). I have also setup Application forwarding and Port forwarding on both the modem and router (at different times, trying to resolve this).
Naturally none of those worked. I don't know if I need a Port forwarded or Application forwarding or the Virtual Server. Also don't know if either of those need to be on one or both devices.
All I do know is to access my localhost from the Internet, all I need to do is put http://65.xxx.xx.152 in the address bar of a browser outside my network, and my modem/and or router should forward the request to my iMac and my localhost:8080.
But every configuration I have tried does nothing of the sort.
