I have a PC running my server application and several iPad Clients, and therefore need a WLAN to connect them.
Can I simply plug an access point such as a Cisco Aironet 1602i into the LAN port of the PC to accomplish this?
I have a AIR-SAP-1602i-k9 Aironet. I cannot find any information on the Cisco site on how to configure the Aironet without a controller. I assumed a standalone meant I could just login.
I tried seeing if it would pull a DHCP address on my network but it didnt.
The first is I have a laptop running XP with a Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card built in to it. But for some reason when I'm using that wireless connector my computer won't connect to my router and give me a 192.168.0.x address, it gives me a regular IP address. I can surf the net and everything but I can't access files on other computers. But from it it'll allow me to connect to the router admin fine.Whenever I put the mac address in to my DHCP setting on my router it comes up * RESERVED INACTIVE * and never gives my laptop a local ip address.The other problem is on my 192.168.0.2 computer I've tried to set up port forwarding but it won't open the ports. My router is a Motorola SBG6580 provided by my cable company. This particular computer is connected by Ethernet and not Wifi if that makes a difference.

Some of our APs might or might not be within the 100m limit from the switches, so we'll be running them as repeaters instead. Right now, we are planning on buying power injectors for everything, but I can't seem to find an answer to this question:
If I'm running an AP as a repeater (no ethernet running back to a switch), can it still receive power from a power injector and a short ethernet run between the injector and the AP? Or will I need to use a power adapter?
i have currently a 2504 WLC and some 1602i AP's.Basically so far i have configured the WLC as per the guidelines on the startup and now i want to join the AP's (which i haven't managed to do yet) and the setup the wireless network.I can get the AP to join and pickup an ip address and that is it. It comes up with different error messages from the WLC, and through hyper terminal, none of which i understand but the main jist is the following:

I need information about the Aironet 600 access point.I got a customer who want to deploy a guest WLAN on branch office with an authentication with a captive portal that is centralized. I would like to use the OfficeExtend functionnality with Aironet 600 Acces point & WLC 5508 or 2504 to centralize the traffic from all access points on the controller.
On those branch offices, there were a few "free access desktops" that need a copper link. I want those devices to be also authenticated by captive portal, so I want to connect them on the four 10/100 port of the access point. But it seems that we can only use one port as "corporate remote LAN", the threee others are just for "home LAN". Is it correct ? Is there any solution to configure the four ports as remote LAN interface ?

I am a owner of a cyber cafe.there is wired lan connection on the desktop computers in my cafe which is connected to a wifi router (Dlink).I have issue while playing counter strike 1.6.if i am connected to wifi router from my laptop, i am not able to detect the lan game server. the game server which is created on one of the desktop machine on the lan network of my cafe ! Where I live there is no DLS or cable to probide me with Interent access so I use my Verizon 3G/4G smart phone (Android) as a hotspot. Right now I am using an old Vista PC and ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) to provide Interent connectivity to my home network and Cisco lab. This works fine but I must have my smart phone near the PC for it to work. When I go to other rooms, I end up missing calls and texts since I have t oleave the phone if it is providing Inerent access at that time. If I can get the Airnet's to connect to the hot spot AND provide Internet access, that will provide me additional mobility. This would also be good for small businesses as a backup Internet Connection.
Is there any way that I could elimanate the Vista PC and have my Aironet 1231G Wireless router(s) automatically connect to my phone's 3G hotspot to provide Internet access to my lan?

I have configure my AP with to SSID (11 & 12), but I cannot connect to 12. It authenticates, and while trying to acquire IP address from 12, it fails and connects me to 11 (if I have already saved the SSID connection).

I'm trying to connect a hp Probook with windows 7(32-bits) to a network. I can't sucessfully connect to both a LAN and a WLAN. The windows diagnosis keep complaining that there's something wrong with the network driver, both for the LAN and WLAN. I recently changed the configuration of my Aironet 1140 from WEP to WAP2-Enterprise to make it more secure. I am using the WAP as the radius server. After making the change I connected my Blackberry to the wap as well as a Samsung Chromebook. However when I tried to connect my HP laptop it is unable to connect. Watching from the Aironet's console I see that it is processing the association and windows ask me to enter my uid and password. When I do this I get an authentication error. I have tried several times adjusting parameters on windows but it always fails. Here is the configuration of the WAP:

View 2 Replies View RelatedEvery device I've tried to connect to my WiFi network have no issues connecting at all, except for, as far as I can tell, Samsung Android phones. My sample set is very small, but both a Samsung Galaxy S3 (both before and after custom ROM install) and a stock Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
I've tried setting a vlan up with no encryption and open authentication, and the phones just halt on "connecting". This issue is both on the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz Radios.
What is working is various computers with both intel and broadcom adapters, a Brother printer, and a Motorola Droid 3 and Motorola Photon Q. I'm starting to think that it's an issue with the radio in the Samsung phones, but the S3 is 5ghz compatible and the Nexus is only 2.4, so they must have different radios. I'm also pretty sure that it's not software on the phones since the S3 had the same problem with stock ROM and CM 10, and the Nexus is Vanilla Google ROM.
I'm waiting to get a chance to upgrade to the new FW for my aironet 1040, and I'm going to fire up an old 1130AG as well as test with an iphone or ipod when I get the chance; I'd just really like to find out what the heck is going on with these samsung phones.

We have a Cisco Aironet 1242 AG Series which we are trying to setup. The DHCP assigns the IP address, but we cannot connect to it. We have had this problem with a previous Aironet unit, which this new one we have got now is also having the same problem!Everything seems to be correct, but we cannot get to the IP address to set it up.
View 12 Replies View RelatedWe recently had the Aironet 3502i APs installed in our infrastructure and are having a bad time with hosts connecting to them. The controller sees them, they have an IP, they are showing a solid green light, but you cannot get devices to connect. If you reboot the device you get about 5 seconds of connection and then it disconnects. The only cure seems to be rebooting the APs, but I am baffled why this keeps happening. The installer is blaming our devices, but it is happening to laptops, thin clients, and even cell phones. From what I've seen, everything works fine until, i believe, the device tries to refresh it's lease and is unable to do so.

I have everything running through a single port on the controller, which is connected to a trunk port on our 3750 stack. Our management VLAN is vlan 40, and AP is plugged into another port on the same switch which is an access port in vlan 40. APs appear in the controller ok, receive an IP address, but we aren't able to connect to any of the WLANs and periodically the APs will disassociate with the following messages: [code] I'm not sure if that's related to why we can't connect to the WLANs or not...
Another wrinkle is that if we plug in the AP directly to one of the PoE ports on the controller, it all works perfectly. I'm guessing its something switch-related since the only difference is that we're not going through the switch when it works.
When one sets up a wireless network, do devices that use the Internet wirelessly benefit from increased security because their connection comes through a router? I thought I heard this from a tech podcast. I don't mean security from hacking, such as having a password, etc. I mean that the router itself gives some security from virus.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThe ONLY reason I bought a router was to get connected to my Security DVR. I don't want to provide Internet for a network. Maybe someday but my only wish right now is to be able to view and control my DVR with my computer. It is hidden away and hard to get to at the moment so a Lan connection would be great.
I tried direct connect with a Crossover cable between the DVR and my computer. The network was reporting as "Connected" but I could not see the DVR much less view the video. Their support said they'd never heard of this configuration. Could not understand connecting without Internet and wasn't sure if it'd work without a Router.
So, first I bought a wired router(EBR 2310) because I didn't need or want the wireless aspect. I followed all instructions until it came to Internet connection setup. Then became lost because I don't have a dedicated ISP, I'm using a USB modem for connectivity. I don't have a static IP so could not enter on. So, backed out of setup and entered the IP of my computer to be 1 higher than my DLink routers. 192.168.0.2. Gateway .1, NO dice. Router not recognized.I called support and stayed on the line over an hour. Finally he said the unit was defective. It would not assign IPs theough DHCP. We ipconfiged, pinged reset and all.
I took it back and got an DIR615, hoping it might be a little better. Same problem. Computer says Connected" but when I ping it, there is not sigh of it. I have manually assigned IPs, DHCPed it reset it rebooted my computer, but still no sign of a router.
So earlier today I purchased a new video card, a PNY Nvidia Gtx 560. After installing the drivers through the disc, I ended up getting he BSOD, and my PC just kept on restarting automatically. I fixed that problem, and found out that I should install the drivers for it through their website instead. So, after restarting my PC yet again, I tried using the Internet (Chrome) and found out that I have no Internet connection. Now, I am writing this on my iPad using the same router and modem that my PC is supposed to be using, but I keep on checking my WLAN adapter and it says that it is Not Connected. Now I have tried every forum, every post, EVERYTHING related to this problem and not a single thing fixes it. Also, when I do the ipconfig, everything says Media Disconnected and that's it. PS, I tried unplugging/plugging back in my modem and router PPS, Is it possible that when installing my new gcard and psu that I may have messed up with something internally?
