D-Link DIR-655 :: Router Configuration File Format Difference Between Rev A And Rev B
Mar 31, 2011
I've owned the Rev A DIR-655 for years and have loved it, but recently it started acting up. I have a complicated setup saved as a gateway settings file (.gws). I decided to purchase a new DIR-655 for the ease of importing my settings without having to manually setup again, however, much to my dismay, the new file format for the configuration settings on the Rev B is not .gws but rather .bin. The .gws file will not import. I tried changing the file extension to .bin with hopes it might import but no luck. I also found the utility which decrypts the .gws file into .xml and used those values to manually re-enter the settings into the Rev B router, but my port forwarding is not working the same. I was wondering if there is any utility to convert the .gws file to the .bin file in order to import into the Rev B router, or if not, can I still purchase the Rev A model somewhere. The online shops I've checked do not list the hardware version.

I have a 1 TB external drive plugged into my WRT610 and want to access the drive from both Mac and PC. I recently upgraded the Mac to Lion and they no longer enable Time Machine to back-up to a network attached drive (Ugh!). I thought a simple work around would be to clone the drive, but the FAT file format does not allow a file size greater than 4 GB. So I seem stuck.Can the router be configured to enable exFat file format for storage? I have the back-up drive in an obsecure location (this is why I want to access the drive over the network) and would hate to relocate the drive to a more visible location.

Network Resources - Network Devices and AAA Clients- File Operations - Add - gives me File Format Validation Faliled. I am carefull to leave the header as it is. The header in the Import Template looks faulty, see attached. When exporting devices I also get the same header as attached. I also tried to change the header so its all in one column, but with same result.

I'm only able to restore my settings from a backup taken in July 2011. Any backups that I take, say today for example, won't restore. Any attempts to restore them is returned with "The restored configuration file has been uploaded in failure." I haven't changed my router. The firmware remains the same. I'm using Firefox, though I believe I've always used Firefox to interface with the router.

Model : TL-MR3420
Hardware Version : V1
Firmware Version : 3.12.8 Build 110418 Rel.43954n
ISP : SBB - Serbia Broadband
I have been usung TP link for years, and now I want to use the 3G modem option the 3420 offers. But in the list of countries I can't find Serbia, and I can't find the ZTE MF 195. I found that on the TP Links site list of compatible modems there is Other countries, but in the modem list there isn't such an option, and since there is also no ZTE MF 195, and there isn't a "Telenor" entry for the service provider.I tried telling the router that I'm from another country, and setting up some of the parameters manually, but "surprisingly" it didn't work. Is there or could someone make a program which makes BIN files specific to the modem that isn't on the list, or is there a place where the BIN files grow?

At home I have a perfectly working test setup for more than 1 year now , but yesterday we had a power down for about 10 minutes in the whole area , after this power down nothing was working in my network any longer.
My Network is has follow :
ISP(Cable Modem) on FA23 from the CISCO 2950 SWITCH (24 Ports)
ROUTER (ON A STICK) on FA24 from the CISCO 2950 SWITCH
And the rest of the switch is FA1=VLAN 1; FA2=VLAN 2;FA10=VLAN 10
Our home network is connected to VLAN 10 with a IP Range of 192.168.10.x /24 After this power down , I was not able to look into the SWITCH via FA1 , the FIX IP in this switch was 192.168.1.251/24, the ONLY way to get access was via the consol port !!!What a suprice when I connected my consol to the PC , I can see ROUTER_F342 , my router config is called ROUTER1841 and my switch config name is /was called SW24.So it seems that after this Power Down , the router took or received a config from my provider ?!?
I have recovered the the file in the switch + the vlan.dat and now everithing works again.
How can I avoid that this switch receive again a wrong file , I have all the needed files on the products itself and I do not use a TFTP server.
I have atached some screen shot when my switch is starting up , and it seems that the switch receive a IP address from my ISP , I do not know why, in the config file I have given it a FIX IP 192.168.1.251/24 ?!?So it seems that my ISP erase the config file and when the switch is empty ,the swich look for :
tftp://255.255.255.255/router-confg
tftp://255.255.255.255/ciscortr.cfg
Etc ....
Until it find something.
I have tried after a complete recovery to switch off the power again for 10 minutes (ISP MODEM + SWITCH + ROUTER) and I was not able to reproduce the fault.Can it be that due to this power failure in our area that some routers or switches send or broadcast this kind of things ?

Just like the topic says i am wondering what is the difference between QOS and WISH on this router, as far i can tell they are both for traffic shaping but surely there must be a difference.Also will either allow for entire IP's/connections be prioritized over others or just specific applications?

First, I am lost between the differences between Port Forwarding, QoS and Application Rules...5 PC's online at same time playing Diablo 3. All lag terribly, and I see posts saying to setup QoS, then another says port foward, then another says setup application rules. I want any PC running D3 to have top priority and max bandwidth...If I try to set QoS, it has Protocol and Remote Port Ranges which I don't know what to put where.If I try to Port Forward, it only wants to let me use one IP address for the ports needed, plus I don't understand the difference between TCP and UDP settings.If I try Application Rules, it asks for a firewall port, which I don't know what to enter.Diablo 3 uses ports 80, 1119, and 6881-6999 I have Rev A2 with 1.21 Firmware and all my machines are on Win7. Should I upgrade firmware? If so, which one?

How do you format the drive for this with the routers web based utility? Or do you just do this while its plugged into your PC then connect it to the router. I know how to format the drive with the web based utility using the FAT system but its limited to 4gb files.

We have CISCO2811 model with VWIC2-2MFT-T1/E1 module working good over the E1 line. Since it's getting hard to find new model of CISCO2811 we decided to connect new branches with CISCO2911/K9 model (according to migration doc)
My question is can we use 2811's old config file with the 2911 model directly?

I just wanted to know if it's possible to playback mkv's either 720p or 1080p using the media server built in to a E4200 and streamed to a ps3? Everything is setup, the ps3 can see twonky, and has access to the external HD connected to the E4200, but upon choosing any type of mkv all i get is unrecognized format.... Avi's and mp3's all seem to be okay, as does iso's. Only I thought I read somewhere that it supports streaming HD material. p.s. the E4200 came with the latest .13 firmware. although I didn't put it on there, as I picked it up cheaply as it was a returned unit to the store.as this is supposed to be an upgrade from a wrt54gr that was used with ps3mediaserver, but struggled with 1080p's.

I'm trying to configure the NAC Profiler with a 3310 CAS Collector. In the "Edit Collector" menú, it shows all the modules as "Running", except for the NetWatch module which shows a state "Invalid configuration file (missingInternalAddress)".
I configured the eth3 interface of the CAS as a monitor interface in the Profiler (see attached image), and I tested that the SPANed traffic actually reaches that interface from the access switch. I'm using software version 3.1.0_24 in both the Profiler and the Collector.

I am trying to configure this router to obtain an IPv6 address from my ISP who offers a dual stack IPv4/IPv6 DHCPv6 Prefix Delegation service.
I did a WAN packet capture to see the type of DHCPv6 packets the router sends to the ISP in order to obtain an IPv6 address and I saw that the router is sending DHCPv6 solicitation packets of type IA_NA i.e. for Identity Association for Non-temporary Address. However, most ISPs that offer a dual stack IP4/IPv6 service, they use DHCPv6 Prefix Delegation in which case the router is expected to send DHCPv6 solicitation packets of type IA_PD i.e. for Identity Association for Prefix Delegation.
I then downloaded its configuration file and saw the following:
dhcpv6c = {}
dhcpv6c[1] = {}
dhcpv6c[1]["renewTime"] = "3600"
.....
So, the option for the DHCPv6 client to perform a prefixDelegation request is disabled. Does that mean that if I set this flag to "1" it is going to work? Well, I edited the configuration file and changed this flag but the router refuses to load it! It complains about the file being changed. How does it know that? Is it computing some type of checksum? How can I manually edit this flag and update the router's configuration?
