Sizing Fortinet 300C To ASA Series
Aug 4, 2012
We are currently in a position to be needing an ASA series firewall. We currently have dual redundant Fortinet 300C's in place. The reason we are wanting the ASA series is the way we are designing our VOIP system is we will be utilizing the 9900 series cisco phones with the any connect VPN. We are also going to structure our BYOD deployment around the any connect VPN.
My first step is to find an ASA firewall that is comparable to the 300C's that we have now.
We have 350 "internal" clients on an MPLS network at 20 remote sites. All of the internet to these sites comes back to our HQ where the firewalls are located. The MPLS is 30Mbps to the internal and 15Mbps to the internet. The fortinets do web content filtering, traffic logging, DMZ separation, NAT, and we will replace our Juniper SA2000 VPN with the ASA firewall as well. We are looking at roughly 125 VPN clients.

We have a FortiGate 300C firewall and I was trying to allocate an external IP to an internal IP and I was having a lot of trouble figuring out exactly how to do that.

I created the VPN between WRCS4400N and Fortinet 111c and tunnel is up. When i am pinging my cisco subnet (10.0.20.0) from fortinet, its pinging. But when i am pinging fortinet (10.0.1.8) or any ip of this subnet from cisco router its not pinging.I have real IP on my Fortinet and dyndns on Cisco Router. The simple diagram is attached for my vpn network. I think its routing issue, i have to add route in cisco router but i don't know what route i have to add there in order work the vpn perfectly.

Where to find the configuration for TCP window sizing or scaling on the nexus 7000. Also, if the Nexus 7000 handles packet traffic through-put from things like CIFS differently or does it just pass the packet straight through.

I'm working withbusiness set up a remote office, currently with about 45 PC's that could grow in the future. They are looking at a RV042G or (for long term future growth) a ISA570.They want to be able to do content filtering by category, ie restrict gambling, drugs, etc. sites rather than by URL or addresses. Is either the RV042G or the ISA570 capable of doing this? Are both routers to be available long term? ie, they are not on any end-of lists? I've looked and did not see them on any.Is the RV042G capable of handling an office even starting with 45 PC's? If not, is the 570 a good fit?

My Draytek 2710 just dies after 2 years so I was looking for something a little more reliable and noticed the spec of the SRP527W-U.I take it with only one antenna and reading a couple of past discussions, the wireless will only manage n-lite as some people call it i.e. 150Mbps, and not the full 300? Oh, and are the ports still only 100M and not Gig?I know the 547 would tick both these boxes but we are talking twice the price. How does the quality and logevity of the SRP500 series compare to the RV series (which would need an adsl modem) or the Linksys boxes?

I have not done much with business routers, but we have a 1700 series with a WAN WIC-1ENET card with a RJ45 connection. We had a T1 line and will be moving to ehternet. We are going to be moving to a 20MB line, and i just wanted to make sure I have the right connections before installing. We also have a T1 line in another loaton and would be moving to this same 2811 router there as well.We would also like to copy over the configuration from 1700 series router to the 2811 router. Would it be easier to do it by hyper-terminal? Also if we keep the 1700 routers are they capable of using layer-3?

Our house has a cat5 line that runs from downstairs, around the outside of the house to an upstairs office. We are consolidating all the outlets that are randomly spread around the walls. The cat5 cable is about 6 inches too short to reach the new box so we figured we might as well run a new cat6 line. (I think we can make the run 20 feet shorter so that's a bonus.)The cat5 line has 2 jacks wired in series at either end. Everything I've read says cat6 is much more touchy and you should only expose the minimal amount of wire from the sheathing and don't untwist the pairs more than necessary. Can I put two jacks on each end of the cat6?

Some Routers support DHCP spoofing (zyxel / speedtouch). With DHCP spoofing (or half bridge) you can directly spoof you'r public IP address to the firewall. Firewall gets public IP address directly from modem. Benefit of this (no waste of an extra IP address). Modem has no IP address. It has to be possible with an 8xx series router I heard, but I cannot find how.I guess it can be done with a bridgegroup with the dialer and VLAN 1 in it (no ip addresses given).I tried but without any result.

I have a ADSL and ESHDSL service being delivered to a client site and then using HSRP to ensure that ADSL is provided first and ESHDSL will take over after. The ESHDSL is dedicated for DVTIs to branch offices and that works fine, however I want to provide redundancy for incoming services such as SMTP/RDP etc. but when I forward these ports or a direct IP NAT traffic can only flow if directed to the ADSL service because HSRP is masking the route back and since it came in on the ESHDSL router the ADSL router does not know what to do with the traffic and hence drops it.
How to make it so both routers can port forward with HSRP?

We have the ASA firewalls in our environment - two 5510's and one 5520.Our 5510's are currently used in our production environment and the 5520 is our firewall for pre-production and support personnel. My question is about the AnyConnect VPN licenses we have. Currently we have 100 seats for AnyConnect on our production ASA's, but we'd like to see if we can move half of these to the 5520 ASA?
