View 1 RepliesI am with Virgin media (UK) and have the 20mbps fiber optic connection. My area has recently been having problems with the broadband and Virgin has recently fixed these problems. However I used to get around 19mbps now that the problem is fixed my computer which is wired to the router gets about 0.4mbps downstream... However the 5 wireless computers all get 16mbps which is pretty good for them. Windows tells me that its a firewall issue and I currently can't use two programs, spotify and steam. They both have firewall issues, even if I turn off my firewall which is the windows one. I also have avast, and when I turn that off, still no good. I used OpenDNS, stopped using that flushed my DNS, that didnt work. I tried to optimize my computer settings, by changing various values in Regedit. All of this has done nothing. I should add that I have recently re-installed Windows 7 so on this fresh install it has never had decent internet speed. Which I thought was weird.. I have basically had these problems since the fresh install. All of my drivers are up to date.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo a few months ago I bought a wireless router, and I've been using it just fine with my laptop ever since. however, my father-in-law has a laptop and he can't connect to the router. and the other day I bought a brand new desktop PC, and it can't connect tot he router either.both my FIL's laptop and my new desktop detect the wireless router, then when connecting ask for the passphrase. so i put in the passphrase and hit connect, and it says that it couldn't connect (quite the vague error message).
I tried putting in an incorrect password, and an error message comes up saying that the passphrase is wrong, so I know thats not the problem. Next I dissable all security, and both are able to connect to the router just fine, but not with the WEP pass phrase.I don't understand why they can't connect since I have the proper pass phrase. I also have a nintendo DS and Wii, both of which are able to connect to the wireless router with a passphrase, but not without.
so, if I have no security all 3 comps can connect but not the wii or DS. and if I have the WEP security on, only 1 laptop and the Wii/DS can connect. furthermore, my DS requires a WEP security key to connect.so anyways, what would cause the problem with the laptop/desktop recognizing the wireless router, validating the password but not actually connecting? but being able to connect without any security?

View 1 Replies View RelatedThere are 6 computers in our home network. It happens every few months or so that router would not assign valid IP address to one of the computers. So, most of the time everything works well, but there comes a moment when one of the computers (but not others) can't get valid IP address. We try turning off and then on the router and it solves the problem most of the time. But, there are cases when turning off and on the router won't solve the problem.

Just sold my computer and the plan was to buy a newer mac but we've been getting along fine without a computer with just using our iphones. So my question, I see that Cisco has the Connect Express app for the iphone, and I've read about all the features it has like changing settings, router features, etc. But I can't find anything on using the app for the initial set up of the router. I'm currently on an older linksys router (set up before we sold the computer) but it's time for a needed upgrade.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Netgear CGD24G Wireless Gateway and a Gateway MA8 laptop with after-market Windows 7 (Vista got a virus, went ahead and upgraded.)Now, when I download 100 MB files on my Xbox 360 (Which is wired to the modem) it will be downloaded in a couple minutes, or less. The other computers in my house (There are plenty, and even more that come and go.) get a blazing internet connection, and most of them are wireless. Now this computer, which had an extremely quick connection as well all of a sudden dropped off, while the rest of the computers remain fast.I've gone to Speedtest.net before and after this occurred and my speed before was around 12 mb/s, and one time around 4 AM was even upward of 25 mb/s, all of these tests were performed multiple times on different server locations. I JUST did the speedtest, and it came back with .4 mb/s, and the UL speed was 2.0. I honestly can't remember what I averaged with it prior to the problem, but it was definitely higher as well
