I want to set up a Home network between a Win XP PRO/LINUX UBUNTU 10.10(Dual boot) and a Win XP PRO.I need to find out:
A) The IP address of:
1) Each machine on the router
2) The router's IP address
B) How to configure the router using this information Several years ago I saw a tech set up a network using this information but I don't remember how to do it
C) What software I can use on Ubuntu to set up the network
Everything in our small network worked until today when I had to manually reset the router. We run a application through a provider which requires that we view it from the same IP address for access. We have a statis IP assigned by our ISP solely for this purpose. For simplicity, lets us 23.11.23.176 as the statis assigned by our ISP and 23.11.23.175 as the gateway also assigned by our ISP. The application we need to browse requires that we use the 23.11.23.175 address else it is blocked from viewing. When we hard line into the modem, we are able to browse it fine. When I connect the CISCO router and do it wirelessly, it shows our address as 23.11.23.176 what are the required steps in order to set the CISCO router to use the Gateway address as the browsing IP for computers connected to it. We had set it up about a year ago, and i completely forgot how.

View 1 Replies View Relatedhere where I work we are having an issue with IP Address conflicts. We are not sure exactly why, though. We have only had it happen 2-3 times so far, but this has been over the past week or so, and we would like to get it resolved. Here is what is happening: Last week we were getting an "IP Address conflict" message on one of our computers. It had received 192.168.3.112 from our DCHP server, so we switched it to a static IP address up beyond our DHCP range. We then tried pinging the address with the conflict, but got nothing. We figured it was some device that had a static address, so on the DHCP server we reserved it to a non-existent mac address so it wouldn't hand that one out again. This wasn't a problem, since it was an isolated incident.
Since then we have tried periodically pinging 192.168.3.112 to see if there is actually a device using that address, but have gotten no replies. Since then we have had another one or two times where this has happened, but with different IP addresses. We went around and checked a couple of different wireless routers that we had deployed, but the DHCP had been disabled on all of them (but then again, the issue came up just recently, while the routers have been out there for months).
Bought DIR-655 from Amazon. Rev. B. Come with 2.00NA firmware. Updated to latest one, and there are a lot of problems, to most of them, I was not able find any solution. Here they start:
1. WIFI SPEED PROBLEMS.No matter what speed, parameters, channel, mode, etc I select, router keeps working on 20mhz channel width. So I never get speeds above 65 mbit. In absolutely same conditions, my DIR-300 B1 (with DD-WRT firmware) gives me stable 150mbit. SO I KINDLY ASK, MAYBE THERE IS A WAY TO FORCE "40 MHZ ONLY" OPTION?
2. PASSWORD PROBLEMS.Router came with no admin password, I enter new password, hit "update" it says - wait 20 sec, after that, login page is displayed, but, new pasword does not works! since it asks again for empty password!
3. FILTERING PROBLEMS.I need to block certain IP address to be accesed by all my computers. Say this is 111.111.111.111 . So I added inbound filter rule, to block access to that IP. It does not works - IP is still accesible.
4. MORE FILTERING PROBLEMS.Since above mentioned method does not works, I have to use "ACCESS CONTROL" feature. It does works, but it causes another problem, with access control enabled, all webpages with form submit stop to work. For example, if I'll have that feature enabled, when I press "post" on this webpage, it instantly will go to "this page cannot be displayed".
I bought this router solely for one purpose - I was happy with speed of my DIR-300, but I needed gigabit for my computers. So I thought, instead of buying separate switch, I'd better buy a router with gigabit. I was suggested to get TP-LINK 1043, since it's quite popular, alternate firmwares available and so on, but I refused to buy it, since I thought that some chinese company does not worth my attention. So I bought this D-Link (for almost 2x price of TP-Link) and having huge problems as you can see.
I want to do what I thought would have been a simple enough task - block my kids phone/computer after certain hours. Instead of blocking the specified MAC address(es), all my computers does not have internet access. As soon as I disable the policy, internet access is on again. Here's what I did:

when I ping another workstation on my local network I should get back it's local IP but instead I am getting an ip address that resolves to somewhere in Germany! In fact if I ping any bogus name, I mean anything, it returns this same address 62.116.181.25. If I shut down my cable modem then everything resolves correctly. And yes I have DNS relay enabled because it seems to be the only way to get the workstations to resolve external sites correctly.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am administering a Catalyst 2960S switch and I would like to connect several computers to it. Some of those each have a static IP address. For a few of them, I would like the switch to dynamically assign an IP address to them via DHCP. Is the switch capable of doing this? If so, how can I do it? I tried looking through Cisco Network Assistant and I couldn't find it. Some web pages have suggested I telnet into the switch and issue commands like "ip dhcp ?" to see what commands are possible. I can telnet in and if I type but I get an "Unrecognized command" for both "ip ?" and "ip dhcp ?". This makes me think I'm reading the wrong web pages. I did come across the term "DHCP snooping". It seems relevant, but very difficult for me to grasp.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have an ADSL connection and use a D-Link DSL-320B modem. We have a D-Link DIR-120 router connected to this modem. This has worked perfectly fine up until today when we disconnected the router and connected a computer (call it A) directly to the modem because it was getting an unusable connection through the router for some reason. We later also performed a factory reset on the DIR-120 router.
Unfortunately, after the above steps the router did not receive any IP address (through DHCP) from the ADSL connection anymore. During my attempts to debug this I noticed that my laptop (call it B) didn't get any IP address either (when connected directly to the modem). I noticed the following syslog entries repeating over and over while trying to connect: [code]
At this point computer A could still get a connection just fine tho (when connected directly to the modem).
I then tried to change the MAC address of the router to an arbitrary one (a copy of computer B's MAC address but with the last digit increased by one). The router still did not get assigned any IP address. Finally I tried making the router clone the MAC address of a third computer (call it C). C has never been connected directly to the modem. Doing this worked. After cloning the MAC address of computer C the router is immediately assigned an IP address and the internet connection works as it did prior to all this.
Now, my question is, why would computer B and the original MAC address of the router not be able to get an IP address while two other computers worked just fine? Why would changing to an arbitrary MAC address not work while cloning the MAC address of another computer did? Could the router's MAC address have been blocked by the ISP for some reason (and what could cause this)?
but my situation seems more like a blacklisting of some MAC addresses rather then allowing just a single MAC address.
On my cisco IOS 12.4 router,Can i make it so only lets say mac address 11:22:33:44:55:66 able to use ip address 10.10.10.2?I want this so that only this IP can configure servers, and so if the computer using it is turned off, any other device cannot use the IP address.

The issue is that when I try to access any computer e.g to use FTP. From outside since I can only use the main WAN IP address when I use FTP I can only connect to one computer basically the one running FTP service on port 21. I can access the wireless router and if necessary can do the port assignments. View 1 Replies View RelatedEverything was working fine, and various computers, tablets, and even my smartphone, all hooked up to my router without any problems. Somehow, this week, first my Asus U56E wouldn't connect (before all this it was automatic), and then my Google chromebook wouldn't connect either. The Asus is my main computer. And the reason for writing. I just mention the chromebook because they both quit connecting at same time, pretty much. But still my old xp netbook connects, as does my new google nexus7 tablet. And my nexus one phone. All hook to wifi, with no problem.I tried everything I could think of: This is a Dlink Dir615 router. Even set a new wireless network up, but it doesn't seem to connect. I ran the Windows Network Diagnostics, and it reset everything, and looked like it was fixing it, but no go. It said to investigate router or access point issues. I did what it said, and what has always worked with these problems. Turned off router for about 1/2 minute, then restarted it. Then did the same with the Cox motorola modem, *and* the router, but still, just doesn't want to connect. Wireless, that is...no problem with ethernet.Finally pushed the little pin in in the back of router, and reset the router entirely. Set all up again. Same thing happens, it just doesn't seem to recognize these two computers. So just to be sure, I used my nexus one as a wifi point: and these computers hook up fine, so it seems to be something with the router. My ISP is Cox. Cable. Router D-Link Dir 615, latest firmware. Modem Cox issue Motorola Surfboard. Antivirus Microsoft Security Essentials, and Win7 Firewall (I tried with these two turned off, but still no).I include the xirrus app's output...My wireless network on that app is 'phubai' and that is the one that won't connect. I had trouble bringing it up on Xirrus, too. It would only show when I would attempt to connnect, then it would disappear again.

Later, the original computer, which had always used this router was fine, BUT. The other computer began (I guess) to have problems. Diablo 3 and League of Legends had almost unplayable pings (well, around 200). In the meanwhile the other computer was playing BF3 with good pings.

I am trying to configure access control rules, but the list of computers (ip addresses and mac addresses) are empty, I have setup all of my devices with static ip's, they are all turned on and all have internet access. None of the systems including the one I am trying to configure the rules with are there, They don't show up in port forwarding either. Any one ever have this problem? I returned and DIR-825 Rev.b for this same problem because i thought it was defective.
I have tried rebooting the router, rebooting each pc and trying different ports on the router itself. There are wireless and wired computers that I am trying to setup but none of them show up. When I try to manually enter them into access control ie. 192.168.0.103 it will only allow me to put one computer in for each rule.
The old rev.A router this one replaced work perfectly fine with the same cables and computers setup the same way.
I'm using Comcast cable. I have a motorola cable modem. I run that into a Netgear 8-channel router with wireless (that's 8 physical network sockets).I have had these devices hard-connected to the router up until today and everything has been running fine:
* My Desktop (desktop running Windows 7 with Gigabyte motherboard and built-in Realtek NIC)
* T-Mobile VoIP device
* My Laptop (old Alienware running XP with generic NIC)
Today I took my old desktop motherboard from a year ago (Gigabyte motherboard, but not the same as My Desktop, built-in Realtek NIC), gutted it out, replaced the hard drive, got it running Windows 7 and set it up for my kids. Got it connected to the Internet early this morning when my machine was off and it ran fine.While it was updating, I fired up My Desktop and the router stopped working, all machines lost Internet, and I was at a loss.After some troubleshooting, it turns out that if I have My Desktop and the Kids Machine connected to the router and running at the same time, all devices on the router lose connection. I can have the Kids Machine on with the T-Mobile device and My Laptop and they all work. I can have My Desktop on with the T-Mobile device and My Laptop and they all work. But as soon as My Desktop and the Kids Machine come on together, everything gets hosed.The router is set to reserve different IP addresses by Mac Address for every machine. And I've verified that My Desktop gets its IP address correctly, and so does the Kids Machine. They are different IPs.I (usually) know just enough about networking to get a home network set up.
we hadn't have the WEP key on our Linksys wireless router, so we decided, about a month ago, that it was a good idea to lock our wireless connection. So we did. For a couple of weeks, everything worked just fine.But then we bought a new printer, which happened to be a wireless network printer, and in the process of installing it, we mistook the reset button (I think) on the router for some other button and ended up resetting the router. When we did that, we undid WEP key, thereby unlocking the router. Then, we locked the router again, at which point one of our computers--which happens to be mine--ended up not working. All other computers and phones and iPads work just fine, but this one laptop of mine just doesn't work (with respect to wireless internet connections, of course).

The internet works for about five or ten minutes (which is unbearably annoying because I have to reconnect it every five minutes), but my computer somehow disconnects itself from the internet connection. Also, although the internet technically "works," the wireless network icon thing on the bottom right of the screen has an "X" on it, which I thought meant the internet is not working, but it apparently doesn't, because my internet is working now. And, if I click the icon, it says that I'm not connected, but, again, the internet works. (for about 5~10 minutes, if I unlock the router)

- changing the wireless internet connection property to WPA, WPA-PSK... everything.
*All computers in the house have wireless internet connections but mine.
*When I reset the router, the internet works, although the computer says it isn't connected, and it disconnects itself every 5 or 10 minutes.
I have a SMC Gateway Router and 2 computers connected to it with RJ-45 cable. They are (1 iMac + 1 PC) 150 feet apart both computers are wired to the router. I also have a Canon Pixma MP 560 Multifunction Inkjet printer that has the capability to be connected both wired and wireless. Right now it is only connected to the iMac via a USB connection as all 3 (router, iMac and printer) are on the same workstation.how to connect the printer so it could also support the 2nd computer a Windows PC which is located on the floor below. Can I do that through the wired router too? If not possible, I also have the capability to connect wirelessly although I would prefer to use the wired connnections.The PC has a Belkin USB 2.0 Network Adapter for wireless connection; both SMC Router and Belkin USB adapter are 902.11 N capable.
